Bro's notebook died... need a new one.

He wants a medium or small replacement. First off, no macs... he's in law school and Bar doesn't allow macs in exams. Because is old notebook is dead, he needs something that will last, with a service plan that won't put him out of commission if it needs maintenance.

Gaming: Not required, but it would be nice.
At least 1 gig mem.
DVD burning is required.
Screen size lowest=13 biggest=17
Mostly used for internet, word, email, etc. No photoshop or other processor-heavy stuff.
Portable is better. Light-weight and long battery life.
He's thinking he wants at least a duo processor, at least 1.83 ghz.
Only needs 60 gigs minimum.
XP Pro required.

Price is an issue: $1,400 or less preferred.

So far, he's looking at the Sony FE or FS. Willing to consider Dell. Wants something that will last forever. The graphics in the FS is Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900. What is that? I'm trying to sell him on an alienware - either a Sentia m3450 or an Area-51 m5550. He is skeptical because of what happened to me (check my sig). If anyone has thoughts on these, please post.

You can get a nice thinkpad t60 or latitude 620. Both can be had with ur specs for under 1400, their light yet powerful for some gaming, are build very SOLID as they are business class notebooks

Bro needs to re-examine why he is in law school rather than art school

Since he thinks IBMs are ugly, I recommend the HP business line of notebooks Like the nc6220 or the nc6230. If he thinks those are ugly too, get him an HP dv2000T.

Looks like he's going to get either a dell or a sony. His main concerns now are the keyboard and touchpad. Which co. makes the better keyboard?
