Just bought an MSI 1032, having problems.

I'm also going to ask the guy I bought it from, but in case someone can suggest a route, here goes:

MSI 1032, used, was cheap because the guy painted it and people are afraid of painted laptops, I know from experience trying to sell one. Bought as a barebones unit.

Added 1.73ghz 533mhz processor
512mb RAM (pulled from a working Dell D505)
80gb Toshiba hard drive

It powers on, but the screen stays 100% black. Not a smidge of action at all. The POST speaker doesn't beep, nothing. All fans come on, LEDs all work. I've checked that everything is seated already. I've checked the two LCD headers. What kind of problem would leave the screen black? I've had bad processors before, and they always give a POST message... I hope it has an internal speaker. If the hard drive was bad, that wouldn't keep it from going to the BIOS at least, and I know the RAM is good.

Have you tried it with an external monitor. If it works with the external chances are it's the inverter or LCD backlight.

Nope, nothing on the monitor at all. Power light just flashes, like it doesnt even know it's plugged in.

Ok, I think the problem is an incorrect dip switch configuration, but I can't find dipswitch SW5. SW4 is set properly so I really need to find SW5.
