Please help me to convince Dell!!!!

Hey guys, My M170 is being replaced per complete care. It has the 7800 GTX, but the new system is coming with a 7900 go.

I've been on the phone with Dell for almost an hour trying to convince them that this card is not as good but they keep saying that it is.

What can I say to convince them that this is a downgraded card? Has anyone esle gone through this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldnt complain. Look at the processor you are getting.

So they are giving you the 7900 GS. I'd tell them if you had the 7800 GTX in the original factory configuration, they should replace it with the 7900 GTX.

I tried to tell them that, I also tried explaining that the Go isn't as good as my GTX, but they insist that it is. I can appriciate the upgrade with the procceso, but this laptop was bought strictly for gaming. I don't know what else to tell them....

give them strait out info to info like, clock speeds of mem and core 7800GTX-7900GS and also pixel pipelines and shaders and etc just push all the specs on them

Just FYI...
* GO are the Nvidia mobile chips.
* Both the 7900 GS (what you're getting) and the 7900 GTX are GO chips.
* Telling them you don't want a GO chip is telling them you don't want either one.

I've been looking all over for the specs, would you be able to tell me where to find them?

Thanks WackyT, this is the terminology that I have been using with Dell.

Okay, I've found some specs, and the 7800gtx is definatlry better that the 7900gs. I'll try calling them once again to try to convince them.

If anyone esle know's of any other angles I can work, please let me know! Thanks!

Just to be clear, the 7800 GTX was a part of your original build from Dell, and not an upgrade you installed, right?

Yes, the 7800GTX came original on my M170. Thanks!

OK. With all the people upgrading their laptop's video cards on here themselves, it's hard to tell.

7900GS is pretty comparable in graphics performance to a 7800GTX, and one of the other posters is right - look at the CPU you are getting. Your overall system performance is far superior in the replacement system than it is in your original system.

Only thing I would try for is 2gigs of RAM considering the prices lately. And a 5400rpm is blah.

Well I taalked to Dell, and after having me on hold for about 25 mins. I was told that the department that needed to deal with this issue was closed.

On a side note. I just noticed that they are building me a NEW laptop. Should I waite untill I get this, then try and have them send me a 7900GTX? I don't want them to cancel the order and I get something worse.

Thank you for all of your help guys!

Do like I did, wait till you get the replacement, then complain. They offered me 450$ to keep the system. With the $$ you can buy a new 7900 GTX (after you sell the 7900 GS).
If YOU feel that the system is not as good don't let them off the hook. I would look at it from both sides and see if I was getting the better deal. They should make sure of that as well, you are the customer after all. However I think we sometimes expect the OEM's to just bend over and take one for the team a little to often. In this case it looks like a pretty good deal for you (IMHO) with the exception of the 7900gs; most likely a dual pipe card cause it's in the 1710. Just my 2 cents worth and good luck to you.
I would push for the gtx only because that is what you have in your M170, that being said, if they didn't give me one I wouldn't kill myself. Just overclock the piss outta that GS like everyone else is.
Yeah the 7900GS is still a better card than the 7800GTX in every way. They easily clock to high performance cards while still performing better heat/battery wise. I wouldnt go nuts over it because overall the system is better and with gaming that Core Duo CPU is going ot make a huge difference. Im gonna put up a Direct Review of a system that has a Core Duo 1.83Ghz and compare it to a Core 2 Duo 2.00 to show how monster of a CPU this really is.

Thanks for all of your replys everyone! Yea I know I am getting a better prossesor, so i shouldn't take that for granted.

If you guys can honestly tell me that the 7900GS is as good as the 7800GTX then I guess I'll let this die, but I was thinking that I should have gotten the 7900GTX, and that card is waaaaay better than both of those.

Thanks again for your replys!
