Please help me to convince Dell!!!! - Page 2

post #21 of 29
From what I've read the 7900GS will beat the stink out of a 7800GTX after you overclock it. At stock speeds it seems to be on equal footing.

I see it this way, you thought you should get a card that is way better than the one you have, and are getting. Yes, that your getting it replaced is good, but they could have given you another m170, exact same specifics, or a tad better. You remind me of someone who wants something for nothing. I look at it this way, everything else is the same or better, and the time you have put into bitching about it, you could have overclocked the 7900 and been way ahead of the game.

My advice, suck it up, quit whining like a little girl, and be grateful they didnt send you a refurb m170 like they could have sent you.

Just my $.02

Why is there always an E-thug trying to tuff it up in every forum? Thanks, but no thanks for those wonderful words of wisdom.......

anything but an e-thug. I'm just tired of seeing all the threads asking how to get somethign for nothing, or how to harass dell into upgrading their upgrades for free. Also, that post is anything but e-thuggery. I'm just saying what most are prolly thinking, just putting it bluntly. You never told us why its being replaced, or any back story, just ask how to get your upgrade upgraded. Now, it if was a x1400 video card, i would be in your corner , along with everyone else, but its not.

I do apologize if i seemed to be a little harsh, I'm just sick of everyone asking how to get free upgrades , or how to fry their 6800 ultra so they can get a 7800Gtx, or complaining of really nonexistent problems to try and get somethign free or get upgraded for free.

If there is a legitimate problem, by all means, get it fixed, but dont try to jip dell, or eventually it'll get ruined for those who have legitimae problems. I have seen it happen with a muli-billion dollar company i worked for. Customers abusing the system ruined it for everyone. I believe dell is very generous with their replacements/upgrades for problematic systems. But nothing states they have to upgrade the replacements, like i said.

Look at it this way. You go to the store and by a dozen medium, grade A eggs. get them home, and they aren't big enough, tasty enough, scramble good enough, whatever. Are you going to try and take them back and get a dozen and a half jumbo AA eggs in exchange, no your not.

Clif notes: not an e-thug, just expressing opinion, the few who abuse will ruin it for us all, and well... think what you want, opinions and all that jazz.

p.s. reading back through, wtrman said almost the exact thign i did, just nicer, so does that mean hes an e-thug as well?

I see your point, as well, I might have come across too harsh but I saw no reason to disrespect me....

My laptop was knocked off of my counter top by my son. He had run into the house after forgetting his school bag and tripped over the power cord (which wasn't in his way) he was just a little careless.

I bought this laptop with the money I had saved over an extended period of time. I also payed another $350 on an additional insurance to protect it. When I pirchased this insurance I was told that Dell would only replace the laptop/parts with like or better equipment.

It's just a matter of principal for me. I am not trying to get anything for free. When you compare the specs of the 2 GPU's, clearly the 7800GTX has an advantage.

Also I'm sure I can over clock it to out-perform the 7800, but then I run a risk of loosing my warranty. It doesn't make sence to me to do that.

I am not trying to jip Dell, I am just trying to get what I was promised from Dell in the first place.

If this were you laptop I'm sure you would take my perspective on this issue into consideration.

I'm sure if it happened to me, I would be in the same boat. Like i said, Its all the other posts getting to me, and i apologize for unloading it here on you. You got to admit though, there is a significant portion of those here who would do what they could to jip dell, look at the huge post a while ago when it was discovered that dell didnt have 6800ultras anymore, and were replacing with 7800gtx. It was huge, everyone trying to fry thier cards, and asking how to do it.

SO lets call it a truce, we both see where the other is coming from, adn so on and so forth. Deal, deal.

Edited cus i hate my GF's laptop keyboard, and i cant type worth a crap,

7900GTX = 24 PSUs, 8 vertex units, 16 ROPs, 256 bit mem (500/600) SM3
X1800 XT = 16 PSUs, 8 vertex units, 16 ROPs, 256 bit mem (550/650) SM3
7800GTX = 24 PSUs, 8 vertex units, 16 ROPs, 256 bit mem (400/550) SM3
7900GS = 20 PSUs, 7 vertex units, 12 ROPs, 256 bit mem (375/500) SM3
X1800 = 12 PSUs, 8 vertex units, 12 ROPs, 256 bit mem (450/500) SM3
stats taken from another forum

The link that was already posted in this thread, also shows that the stock 7800gtx is better than the stock 7900gs.

So they're actually downgrading your graphics card slightly, but upgrading your processor. Push for the 7900gtx, and if it's any consolation you could ask them to not give you such a powerful processor.
