Ferrari 4000 PC3200 mem at 200mhz

Hi all i just wanted to relate a little finding i found the other day.

I have looked around here trying to get a solution to my OCz PC3200 running at 200mhz rather than lappy default of 166mhz, the fix was to use A64tweaker and set it manualy, the problem was the program would not remember the settings correctly and on a reboot the lappy would freeze. The only way i could get it to work was to manually set it too 200mhz everytime i booted my lappy, a real pain.

BUT now there is another solution that works. a64info, read on.....

1. Download A64Info-beta.exe.
2. Set your lappy to run Max performance.
3. Run A64info-beta.exe. (Version 0.62)
4. Set the Memclk Frequency to 200
5. Click on the Save button name and save it too the same directory as the program ie C:\Program Files\A64Info\200.set
6. Create a shortcut to A64Info-beta.exe in your Startup folder under All Programs.
7. Right click the shortcut and choose properties.
8. Add this to the Target field i.e "C:\Program Files\A64Info\A64Info-beta.exe" C:\Program Files\A64Info\200.set Apply and OK it.
9. When you reboot, if you check with a64info or cpuz or something you will see that your ram should be running 200mhz instead of the 166mhz it usually defaults too.

NOTE: I run performance on demand and changed it back to that once i had done the above, i am happy to say that it now goes back to 200mhz when flicking between high Mhz and low. Before with A64tweaker when the speed dropped my ram went down to 160mhz (dividers) and when it increase it would only go to default 166mhz, NOt now though

how stable is this on games?

is this on-demand settings allowing 200mhz for a long period of time, or would it drop back, say after few minustes?

cheers ...

Ive done this too, and its stable 100% of the time, even in games and everything I did. If ur on an integrated gpu, this will give u a little performance boost. But in windows its not noticeable.

Its rock solid, i wouldnt be using it otherwise.

On demand is when the cpu flicks between its top speed and its lower speed. Cool n Quiet i think amd call it. I think you are getting mixed up. If you use on demand settings then the cpu will run at full load only when required so if gameing for example then you would be or should be full speed which would be 200mhz on my ram. If your on demand setting does not requier you to be full speed ie surfing the net then it will drop the ram speed using dividers. Mines drops too 160mhz others lappys will be different.

If you wanted to run full tilt all the time then you choose Maximal Performance. My point was at Maximum Performance i would only be running 166mhz even though my ram is capable of 200mhz, this was a bios problem on the Ferrari 4000 that Acer never fixed, a64info is a workaround for it. Hope it helps you too.

logan, what about gaming with a 2GB of RAM. Does it makes a different if compared to a 1GB of RAM. I'm thinking of upgrading mine to 2GB but still hesitating.

Try playing Oblivion on 1gb of ram, 2 GB is a must, big difference even better if your ram is running at its rated 200mhz. For sure do the upgrade you wont regret it.

i see from ur sig that u have CAS 2.5 and running in 1T command. Is this your RAM sticks' default setting or u changed it using a64info?

Changed it myself using a64info, try it yourself see if your ram can handle it.

just to let everyone know, i've upgraded to 2GB of RAM and the increase in performance is extremely significant. The machine is more snappy now and i've been playing BF2142 without any lag.

Are there any other memory settings you tweaked when clocking at 400MHz?
i only changed the speed to 200MHz and the command rate from 2T to 1T.

Cas and Trcd and Trp and Tras can all be played with on my ram, defaults were Cas3, 5,5,14 now run 2.5,3,3,11.......at the end of the day you have to test your ram for your own settings as not one stick will run the same as the next users stick.....
