Future HD movies plays on laptop or not?

Is a HDCP videocard needed in a laptop in order to play future Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies? I have read that you can play these movies without problems on laptops if they have an integrated Blu-ray/HD-DVD player, and that only desktops needs HDCP videocard and HDCP monitor? Or if you hook up an external monitor. Or connect an external usb Blu-ray to your laptop, etc.

What is really true? I feel this is a mess.

you may need a specialized reader in your system. i dont think youd need a special videocard to play since all the new disks just have bigger storage and better resolution.

I think most people feel this way. I read a while back that there will be combo players that will be alble to play both formats. several things holding me back from these new formats:
#1. hi costs of players and disks.
#2. two conflicting formats.
#3. the need to have this hdcp junk because of "DRM".
here it is almost 2007 why cant the companies just come out with one standard that stores more (25 -50 gb)...cost reasonable amt per blank disk ($2-3 bucks) cost reasonable for a content disk ($5-$10 bucks) and cost reasonable for a player ($200 or so) if they did this they wouldn't need to worry about lack of sales or piracy.
