External Monitor Killed My LCD Screen?... - Page 3

I suggest that a grounding issue (a known problem) is zapping & killing either the inverter or circuitry of the LCD itself.
My guess is that it doesn't get beyond frying the inverter. I would like to see someone with this problem swap out their inverter to see what's getting plugged in these cases.

Just an update - Dell came and replaced the LCD today, and the laptop works fine now. The screen seems a lot darker than the first one and is really hard to read in sunlight, dunno whats up with that.

Gotta give credit to dell though for being so on the ball with their warranty repairs!

Just found this thread and wish I've found it earlier. I bought the 226BW yesterday and about an hour after pluggin it in, the lcd on my ins9400 went absolutely dead. No fn+F8, no reinstalled display driver nor flashed bios would salvage it. As far as the laptop is concerned the default monitor doesn't even exist. My warranty has expired and I spent all the cash I had on this new monitor, therefore I am absolutely and totally screwed for a very long time

You really ought sticky this thread up as a warning.

I had the same problem. This is ridiculous. I also used the Samsung 22" LCD and it fried my onboard LCD on my XPS M1710. UGH. I'm SO FKN PISSED.

I have the exact same problem with my XPS Gen 2 and my new Samsung 22" 226BW =(

Bought the external monitor because my laptop monitor had the vertical line issue and now this! Think Ill just have to use the laptop as a desktop and get a cheapo laptop for use elsewhere.
