Budget Gaming laptop in 1 year

Thread Starter
I plan on getting a laptop that can play games (HL2, Fear, Spore) in a year. I will have about $1000 max to spend.

What do you think I could get in a year with that much money?
Do you think any of these 3 laptops (with upgarded memory and hdd) will be under $1000 by that time?

Asus S96j

Thanks in advance

In one year there should be quite a few different models....wait t'ill next year before narrowing down your choice like that. And I doubt the price will fall that significantly.

or you could buy from one of the inevitable thousand people on this board who will be selling their "outdated" gaming laptops in favor of newer ones.

For the games you listed those specs will run, AMD Turion, 512MB DDR, 4200RPM 40GB, for graphic card is abit fuzzy because is part of the most expansive hardware. So is better performance the higher price. For this is up to you. If HL2 and FEAR run on onboard which is cheap but you'll be suffering low frame rates. If you want higher framerates on mid quality. You gotta spend alot more for Geforce Go7400 to Go7800. Don't go up to Go7800GTX as is not worth it Because 1 year later you find yourself wanting to get Geforce 8 series based laptop.

So you can now look on websites and mags to find laptop with those specs. Only graphic card decision is up to you.
