Toshiba T2050 processor

I was thinking about buying a satellite A105-S4284 with a T2050 1.60 GHZ and 533 bus processor. Anyone has tested this processor before? Doesn't seem to be too fast? Any opinions? Does someone know which would be the equivalent in the desktop Pentium 4 series?

it seems to run pretty good. i ran pc wizard 2006 benchmark and it compares well with intel pentium d 830 3Ghz and absolutely eats intel pentium 4 640 3.2Ghz

NOTE: This is purely CPU benchmark.

A Pentium M and a Core Duo are approximately 1.6 to 1 compared to a Pentium 4. So a 1ghz Pentium M/Core Duo is equivalent to a 1.6ghz Pentium 4.

So a 1.6 Core Duo is approximately a 2.8ghz Pentium 4……or because it has two cores and uses the a .65nm die its basically a Pentium D 915/920 (2.8ghz)….with out the 64bit ability.

I have read the Core 2 (memrom) is just slightly faster (not enough to notice in most cases) and has 64bit

Thanks all for your help! Basically, the tasks I'll be performing with this notebook will be surfing the net, working with a couple of excel worksheets and powerpoint, itunes and downloading files from the net. Do you think it is an appropriate equipment or should I upgrade it?
Thanks again!!

It'll be plenty for that. I do that and much more with the old Banias pentium M in m the tecra in my sig and have never had a problem with it being too slow. The T2050 should run circles around my machine. indy's right about the 1.6 conversion factor, but as I recall it was for the PM to P4. I haven't seen a new factor for hte CoreDuo or the Core2Duo, but it should be at least that of the PM (if not faster due to the larger L2 cache and the faster FSB).

With what you want to do with it the T2050 should be fine. I have the same CPU in my laptop and its great. I use it for work for programming in VB, using Excel and Access, surfing the net, playing Rainbow Six online no problems at all.

OK. Thanks for the input again...I also burn cd's pretty much and the fastest speed I see it can achieve is 24X. That is not too fast if I compare it with the 52X found in any common desktop burner....Is it possible to find faster burners in more expensive notebooks or is 24X a standard in portable equipments?
