Belkin came out with this:

http://www.belkin.com/pressroom/rele...nsionDock.html

Supposedly supports dvi, etc:
  • High-resolution, DVD-quality video output through VGA or DVI ports
  • 5.1 surround-sound support through optical or 3.5mm outputs
  • Five (5) USB 2.0 ports, including 2 top-load USB ports for easy access by thumb drives
  • 10/100Mbps Ethernet access for instant connection to multiple external devices

looks great, minus the steep price tag.

Sounds like it has it's own graphics solution, so that would probably explain the price tag, not that 200 is really that bad for a high end dock.

Hmm, that actually looks pretty interesting.

And as long as it acutally works as advertised, $200 is not that bad

It may not have its own video. I believe it is possible to pull the DVI video signal from an PCI Express-based video adapter right off the PCI Express bus. So, theoretically, it might be possible to pull video built into a notebook, right from the Expresscard slot.

I've seen this in Dell desktops...they include, in some systems, a DVI adapter that plugs into a PCI-Express slot, and provides a DVI port from the integrated video. The card is a very basic card (like one IC), so I know the video isn't built into the card.

If that's the case, this would be cool!

Very interesting. Finally something to put in my expresscard slot, but it's an expensive way to fill it.

Too bad it doesn't have a TV tuner built-in.

By the way, has anyone used this EC680 card here?

it sounds good but does it work with games that use 5.1 sound ...if it did we all need one for the xps m1710

No it won't. You need a Dolby Digital Live ( http://www.dolby.com/consumer/techno...olby_live.html ) solution for real time encoding of game surround sound.
