Any advice?

Anyone? Where do you get drivers for this thing that make it recognize as an XS? What client utility do you use?

The atheros drivers are Generic.

I can add the Device Id's to the new .33 driver or .27 driver if thats what you want?

I contacted Atheros

They won't give me drivers.

They say contact the manufacture.

Be nice to get the Latest Client and Driver, the ones out there are quite old.

The .27 drivers I'm running are only 3 months old. Published July 17th.

(I used to get a blue screen memory parity error ~once a week, but since reinstalling the drivers garagesale sends, I have not had a bluescreen yet and its been just over a week)

Just a thought.... but I agree... this card does get a bit toasty (love it though)

D.

Think Im gonna slap er in there again and see if I can mirror that fix. Thank you.

For everyone else, There is either 1 of 2 things going on here about the drivers only recognizing our cards as the "X" version.

Reason 1: Garagesale is lying to us all and sending us cards that are not what he says. I cannot believe that could be the case. He is too public, and I have his home address.

Reason 2: Drivers.... period. The installer inf file is not recognizing our cards right. If I install the card and go to windows update, it recognizes my card as an EXS version which made me even more. You can force install the proper driver through device manager which will make the card recognize right. Dont worry, normally it will not crash you (unless you start getting those damn memory parity errors like me because of using "other" drivers. then you just read the last post and start again...).

anyway im off to see what I can accomplish with this. i love the card, i wish i could get it to work right

Uh oh, I have just ordered the card with him. Hopefully he isn't sending the wrong cards out. I did do it via eBay, so I'll be protected.

With my card, it shows as an EX version (with this set of drivers) and a EXS with the windows drivers.
One thing, when I have the wireless off I can check my network devices and it will show 108mb connection possibility... but since I dont have a 108mb wireless router (only 54mb), it will connect at 54mb.

So, I do think we are getting the correct EXS cards, but the drivers out there dont quite list it correctly (but there is a possibility that they will work correctly as EXS, but I dont have a router to test that out)

Ugh, I just got my first blue screen with parity errors. FYI I'm using the drivers & client Garagesale sent.

I got one from a guy on Ebay and I think he is from Germany. The EGS card is so nice. I started losing signal with my Intel 3945. The longer I used it the worse it got. I was so mad when I found out my M1710 used Express. I missed my Atheros card so much but not any longer. The range on the EGS is amazing.

You had any issues with yours Wacky?

It matters on what you want. The 5006EGS has 802.11b & g which is what home, airport, and internet cafe wireless networks use. The 5006EXS has 802.11a, b, & g. The 802.11a is used for some corporate wireless set-ups. For the E1705 you need to get a Mini-PCI-E, not a Mini-PCI, card.

Nobody is making the EXS model or at least that I have been able to find. I waited a long time too and ended up settling with the EGS. The EGS supports eXtended Range, Adaptive Radio, and Super G 108mbs. Personally I think the reason no one is releasing the AR5006EXS is due to "A" band dying out. G looks to be the winner but I could be wrong.

Here is the only guy selling the EGS that I could find:

Shipping took about a week from Germany.
