You need the Socket 478 device.
Only one device worth getting: the 3.4GHz 1MB chip.

I doubt if you will notice any real difference between the 3.2 and 3.4 chips.
My suggestion is to save the $ towards a new laptop in a few years.

it would probably fit but again the same comments apply even more so.
Given the cost of the CPU ~$600 (vs even $225 for the other one) you would get more bang for you buck by putting the money towards a newer laptop.
CPU is only a small part of the overall speed.
Disks, memory, GPU and bus speed have more impact on your performance than 0.2GHz of extra speed and additional cache.

Hey aussie, Sager customer service told me that you cannot upgrade the CPU for the 8890. I wanted to go for the 3.4GHz Intel P4 800MHz 1mb Socket 478. My 8890 has a P4 3.2Ghz 800Mhz 512k Socket 478. Aussie, what can I really put in this laptop?

It will take a P4EE which is what you are talking however the fans will be on a lot more when ambient temps are high (ie summer).

Disclaimer: I have not done this upgrade but others have I believe. Do a search on the forum for P4EE and it should turn up some results. Also make sure your Artic Silver job between the heatsink and CPU is especially good - you are going to need it I would also suggest if you haven't already, polish the heatsink side that is in contact with the CPU.

Just as an aside, did you read my comments in a previous post about the speed difference between a 3.4EE and the 3.2 chips. It may not be worth the hassle to do the upgrade.

You will get better results from tweaking XP, buying 7200 RPM disks and put them in a RAID config than from a CPU upgrade like the one you are considering.

Off the CPU topic, Do you know when I can get the case (back lid) For the LCD screen in my sager 8890? Mine snapped at the hinge. Sager and other companies that deal with the 8890 cant help me. And Im looking on ebay on a daily basis. Can anyone help me?
