Help me decide on laptop (W7j vs. D420 vs. Q2010)

Thread Starter
Alright guys this is round two for helping me pick out a laptop for my girlfriend. I have it down to three laptops, the Asus W7j, the Dell Latitude D420, and the Fujitsu Lifebook Q2010.

Here are my pros and cons for each, ill start with the one my girlfriend really wants:

Fujitsu Lifebook Q2010 (~$2,000 USD)

Pros:
Weight, and hight are really small! 2.2 lbs and only 0.78" high.
A/B/G wifi card
Widescreen (12.1)
Core Solo

Cons:
only 1.5 hours on stock battery WTF!
Expensive for what it comes with
Does not include in "package" an external optical drive
1 year warrenty

Asus W7j (~1,400 USD)

Pros:
Its an Asus!
Widescreen (13.3)
Dedicated Geforce GO 7400 (256mb)
4.3lbs
Core Duo
5400 RPM HDD (100 gig)
A/B/G wifi + Bluetooth?

Cons:
The heaviest/biggest of the group (4.3 lbs)
1 year warrenty
~2.5 hour battery life (upgradeable to 9 cell though)

*This is the laptop i might replace my Asus S5n with*

Dell Latitude D420 (~700-900 via dell outlet USD)

Pros:
Light weight (3.0 lbs)
Great batterylife (4 cell = 4 hours, 6 cell = 6 hours, 9 cell = 12 hours)
Core Duo
A/B/G wifi card
Includes an optical drive of your choice (dependent on price, but CD/RW is included in base)
3 year standard warrenty

Cons:
Its a Dell...
Its from the Outlet (though it is cheaper)
Not the fastest on the block (1.2 Ghz for Core Duo)

So guys what you do think? I really dont like the Fujitsu, maybe if it was close to the price point that the others are i could consider it, but i really dont think its worth that much money!

I really like the W7 because it has a dedicated graphics card and a widescreen (i have the standard 4:3 on my current laptop and hate it). Then i came across the D420, and i really really like it, it seems to be everythign she is looking for and half the price! She wants somthing to take to class and take notes on and surf the net and do stuff for work on it, because her work computer suck ass! Just like MS Publisher, Word, etc nothing like photoshop or anything like that, she works in an HR office at our University.

Anyways what do you guys think? Im really leaning toward the Dell since it is almost half the price of the W7j (even though i *think* the build quality would be better with the Asus).

Thanks for your opinions!

I would go for the dell, its cheaper and pretty small and as u said ur gf doesnt need a lot of power, so the lack of dedicated gpu and only a 1.2 cpu wont matter for taking notes and browsig the web. Also, dell latitudes are a much much better line than the inspirons, so just cuz its a dell doesnt mean its crap. They are built very well.

d420 great little laptop.

I'm pretty sure the optical drive is not integrated on the Lattitude D420 if that is a problem for your gf...aside from that, I do love those little Lattitude D4xx series. BTW, don't forget to add 1.2 lbs for the external optical drive on the Dell.

Out of those 3 my vote's also with the dell (but in that class I'd go for a Tecra M6: 4.1lbs, built in OD and 5hrs battery on the standard 6 cell for about $1k). Sounds like SHE doesn't need a dedicated GPU anyway.

The Dell or the Asus. Asus if she is even considering gameing at all.

I have the D420 for my work notebook...the size is great, and it is a good all around notebook (as long as you don't want to game with it, as has been mentioned already). It's plenty fast for office apps and web surfing.
