Dell 5100 inspiron problems and questions

I just installed a new HD because my old one went bad and i i have a few problems.
First, my battery only last for 40minutes on a full charge?
secondly, my computer does not have standby or hibernate available?

Install your Chipset drivers from dell's website? as far as the battery only lasting 40 minutes that's probably due to your battery being dead is all I can figure.

i updated the chipset and i am still having this problem. Is there anyway or software to test or fix this problem?
