Sager 8790 with Linux

Thread Starter
Ok I can give you alot of experience here, I have installed Gentoo, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and now Mepis 6.0. I have had the ATI driver loaded under all till recently with Ubuntu/Kubuntu. It just quit allowing me to build the sources and load the module. I was the point I was about to give up on the laptop till I loaded Mepis 6.0. Upon installing Mepis and letting it install the ATI drivers, I was really suprised at how easy it was. No hassle and I am up and running the equal to Dapper (6.06) for Ubuntu. I run only linux and develop in linux so it's really not an option just a way of life. I also game on the Sager 8790, mostly native games like NeverWinter Nights, Doom3, Terminus, Quake3, Unreal Tournament and a few others. I do run Cedega and Cross Over Office for other occassional apps that have to be run to accomplish certain goals. I am also the owner of a site that I need folks for, http://www.linuxgamingcommunity.org/ it has the default mambo page up right now. I seen sites come and go, I really want a site that supports Linux gaming from native to Cedega and CxOffice. I also have been a part of the forums of those sites and found information posted but in such a way that it never has been really helpful. Anyone interested in helping out and spreading the word to help expand the linux community can contact me at freejack@simpletechsol.com. Also any with questions needing help don't hesitate to contact me.

Heh feel free to jump over once I get my site back up and join and to collect more general info. Hopefully wont be to much longer, depends on how quick I can get through my next couple of projects and get my portfolio rebuilt into Drupal.

In as far as Ubuntu is concerned, it is better to get the drivers from the repos than build them yourself typically, just easier.

seablade is right, it's better if you get your video drivers through the repos because x won't break when kernel updates are pushed through.

I'm looking forward to seeing how your site develops. I should mention that I just discovered the cedega wiki (http://cedegawiki.sweetleafstudios.com/wiki/Main_Page) which I'm really impressed with. I don't think most windows gamers know how viable an option linux/cedega is.
