Then you want at least a 7900GS, which would place you in the 17" category, which can still be had for your price range though..

The x1600 and go7600 are about as powerful of a gpu as you'll get in a sub 17" notebook. They're usually in 15.4" and at least one 14". I don't game so I can't say how it'll do in Oblivion, but I'm sure someone else can chime in.

Since you don't want a 17", I'd say take a look at something like this Toshiba A100. It has a Core Duo, 120GB HDD, 1GB ram and a 256MB go7600 in it for $1700CDN. You might even find it or a similar one someplace like futureshop for less.

Flashing the bios does not make a Core Duo a Core 2 Duo--flashing the BIOS will allow you to remove the Core Duo cpu later and add a Core 2 Duo.

This assumes a BIOS flash is available--there is no guarantee all laptops that come with Core Duo will have a bios update that will allow the upgrade. All it means is the motherboards are pin-compatible

Guys bad news.
i wont be able to buy laptop this christmas.
earliest is probably my birthday....which is in march
man..i was hoping for new laptop.
my desktop is slow...and only has 40GB of hard drive..and i find myself deleting anything available to make space for new stuff.
i dont wanna buy another hard drive because it will be useless once i buy laptop
i would rather suffer until march.
but then again, on a good side, prices will come down in march right? thats almost 6 months away from now....new technology will be available and hopefully current one will be tad cheaper

If I were in your shoes I would buy another hard drive and use it for file storage (don't install any programs on it). Then when you get the laptop take the hard drive out of the desktop and put it in an external enclosure. The enclosure will only cost about $20-$40 later on and you will always have an external hard drive that you can take places with you.

Just a thought.

I've got a couple of them. One for all my music and one for periodic backups & extra storage of stuff I don't use regularly.

Just to clarify, the AMD Turion is not a dual core 32-bit processor. It is a single core 64-bit processor. Edit: Looks like I was a bit slow to reply.

I think if you find a laptop that will do EVERYTHING at the same time that you want, we all would want one....

i only joined 2 days ago and already rad bad reviews of those cards.
so maybe another card.

my price range is $2000 MAX. (canadian dollars that is...approx $1850 US) shipped and taxes including.

I would preffer to buy from ebay. What do you guys think?
i ll be paying with a credit card, so i can do chargeback in case of scam.

shadz: newegg is awesome site, bu they pnly deliver to US and purto rico.. no Canada.
of course i can buy from other manufacturers.
if i will reaally save a lot of money, then maybe perhaps i will do like you said.
but if difference is minimal, then i would be better buying ram that comes with laptop.
(for a person whop built his own desktop from scracth, how easy would it be to change ram inside laptop? )

i was lucky and managed to get my cousin a new dell 9400 from dell canada for really cheap actually. prettymuch loaded for under $2000 canadian. personally i would avoid ebay like the plague. if you watch and get a good deal from dell canada and know someone who can get and epp (most anyone who works for a major company) you can swing some amazing deals. buying more ram from the manufacturer such as dell directly with your notebook can be an okay deal at a few rare times. you are better off to buy your ram though after market from another place. when i took my xps from 1gb to 2 gb of ram i did it that way. as for how hard it is its about the easiest thing you could do.

The Core 2 Duo's performance is extremely similar, if anything very slightly better than the regular Core Duo. The difference is that Core 2 supports 64-bit applications, and the Core Duo supports 32-bit. Also, the clear cut advantage it has is that it is more energy efficient; giving longer battery life. If this isn't an issue, and the Core 2 is way too expensive, don't bother with it; just go with a Core Duo.
