Need help with HControl

Thread Starter
The last time I restarted my computer a windows error message pops up saying that there was a problem with Hcontrol. What exactly is this? This is a new laptop 5 days old. So I am still installing new software and tweaking things. Did I install something that might have pissed off this prog?

Also, Is there a way that I can reprogram the hotkeys to execute other programs? Or put the computer into hibernate?

Thanks,
Kirk

If it helps heres the Error Signature:
AppName: hcontrol.exe AppVer: 1043.2.15.58 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000

Hi

HControl is just an ASUS utility that controls the quick launch/multimedia buttons on your notebook. If you are having trouble with it try reinstalling HControl (if it's on your drivers disk) or the ATK drivers which are also responsible for keyboard shortcuts. It shouldn't cause any problems if you remove it completely because it won't affect the normal keyboard functions.

As for customising the buttons, I don't think you can- they launch your default applications so try changing them.

Otherwise you might like to try this custom version of HControl.exe which does let you change which buttons do what.

Bare in mind, the last revision is a year old.

Good luck, I hope it helps your problems
