my m170.. a year after..

well.. today officially my m170 is a year old (happy b-day ).. the longest i've kept a laptop prior to upgrading.. performance wise, i just bought the game warhammer dark crusade and i'm still blown away by the performance of this machine... even though i wish i could get my hands on a m1710, i might just hold on to this brute for another year... (personally, i still prefer the black on grey scheme of the m170 as against the m1710 )... no problems to report (although thinking about, i hardly use it anyway).. no scratches or color fading anywhere (still looks like new)... and best of all,
it still kicks ass on any games i throw on it... my only question is how long before my 7800gtx becomes obsolete (sigh, i wish dell would give us the option to put a 7900gtx on this baby )?

Nice! Im glad your happy with your notebook. Im about to smash my m1710! Its pissing me off ever since I reformated. It still looks amazing, but I still get more lag spikes than I want and my sound went to the pooper. I need to have Dell fix this...
Once i buff these minor problems out, you will bow to it!

pfft. youngins. I had the exact same machine in the XPS Gen 2 the M170's older twin brother... over TWO YEARS AGO! and still going strong. Pushing on year 3 now, I let my warranty expire since I hadn't needed it for over a year (did need to get the fans and PSU replaced at one point though).

So knock on wood this thing will last until mobile quad core CPUs andl 9800M GTX's are out, whenever that may be. Yeah I'm gonna completely bypass the dual core and 8x00 series lol that stuff is already passe. Dell built this notebook to last and that's what it's doing. I'll be happy to pass up that cow they call the M1730, holy crap that thing is ugly/massive/underpowered/likely overpriced.

All I can say is if you want your machine to live a long healthy life, clean out the dust from the fans and heat fins regularly (every 3-6 months I'd say).
