Good time to buy a M90 (again)

Hey guys, just wanted to let everyone know that the M90 prices on the dell Outlet are down again. They're not as good as a few months ago but still very good in my opinion. Right now I see:

T2300 / FX 1500m / 1GB / 80GB @ 7200RPM / DVD+-RW / WXGA+ = $1249

T2400 / FX 2500m / 2GB / 60GB @ 5400RPM / CD-Rom / WUXGA = $1569

T2600 / FX 2500m / 512mb / 100GB @ 7200RPM / Combo / WXGA+ = $1579

Considering that you can buy a DVD+-RW from newegg for about $60-70, a gig of ram is about $80-100, you can find some really good deals there, much better than buying new or even from the guys at the FS/FT sections.

Nice Filippo. I saw a guy with one at the truck accessory place today. He paid over $4000 for his. He got a printer and something else with it. Too much though.

after a week of research, i've figured out the m90 at outlet prices is the best laptop for the amount of money i'm willing to spend

one thing that disturbs me though is that i haven't seen too many m90s with the 512mb quadro card and the C2D processor. I don't really plan on upgrading this laptop and would like it to last me 3-4 years, not having a 64 bit processor is a real bummer for me

It sucks upgrading, esp going from a CD to a C2D. Basically you pay for the Core Duo processor at system build time and now that the Core 2s are out, it has very low resale value due to high supply/low demand and the fact that C2Ds are pretty cheap. So if you want a C2D aftermarket, you have to buy the Core Duo, lose basically all your money on that, and then spend the extra $$ on the C2D. Btw, if anyone does want a used 1.8GHz Core Duo for a great price, PM me!

I was looking at these too... there are some great deals there.

What are peoples experiecne with the outlet products? Any problems I should be aware of? Anyone have any bad (or good) experiences with the Dell Outlet laptops?

Are the Core 2 Duo chips drop in replacements on the M90s?

BTW I noticed the drives are listed as EIDE. Does that mean its a SATA drive?

No. That means the drive is an EIDE. ( http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/E/EIDE.html )

If the drive were SATA it'd say SATA. ( http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/S/Serial_ATA.html )

Are you 100% positive that these drives are EIDE? (I actually already know what SATA and EIDE means.) Now that I think about it, I suppose I was more wondering if Dell's Outlet description was correct.

The reason I bring this up is that the M90 is sold with SATA drives. At least this is what their web page says now. Maybe they were sold with EIDE drives in the past and these are older systems in the Dell Outlet?

In any case, I didn't see any on the Outlet listed as SATA and I thought it was strange. It made me think they were perhaps using the wrong description.

Based on past threads this is a Typo on the Dell site. The M90 systems only come with SATA drives.

I thought that was a funny question, nostromo. Just couldn't pass it up.

I personally feel the e1705's are better values and since more e1705's are sold than M90 + M1710 combined your likely to see more in the outlet. Best time to look for a system is in the wee early hours of the morning such as 2-5 AM where the general public are less likely to look since the outlet is updated every 10 minutes. I scored the system in my sig for 1297 with 2 years warranty.com

LOL! You're right WackT. I re-read my original question and it does sound like a pretty silly question I guess I was thinking one thing and typing another.

Is it just me or is the build quality on the m90 not in line with what you would expect from their top of the line machines? I've had mine for a little more than a month and my screen's hinges already have about .5" of play in them when you grab the top of the screen. It seems like this case takes after the inspiron line more than the latitude line. If you look at the M65, it looks pretty much like a latitude D620 or D820. The M90 looks a lot more like the e1705. I really wish they could make the m90 look more like the latitude line. i think the new ones really have an attractive and tough design. Also, my D620's hinges aren't loose, and I've had it for 6 months! Wish I could say the same for my m90

It is built like the M1710 but I think the M90 build quality is top notch. The M90/1710 use alot of magnesium alloy and are very robust, I would argue they are at least as well built as the Latitude line. I have D810's and D820's here that have lots of screen wobble, I just had the hinges replaced on a D810 because it wouldn't stay open. IMHO LCD hinges just vary from system to system, they are like any mechanical part and a certain failure rate is expected.
