Ok, well first off, im ashamed for even asking this question...cause it seems like it should be so simple. I've got 2 partitions on my computer, 1 xp 1 2k. Both have office xp, I want to transfer all my old outlook mail files and what not, onto my other partition, now how would i somehow save the files on my one partiton, and re-load them into my other one. Any help would be appriciated
I just did something similar (except I brought home 3 years of mail and contacts from work to put on my 8887-X).
First, go to Outlook where the mail/contacts/calendar, etc. are currently.
Make sure you have VIEW->FOLDER LIST enabled, it makes things real easy.
Next, ARCHIVE one of the folders (for now, it doesn't really matter). What works best is if you already have an archive (it's a file ending in .pst
and it's under C:\Documents and Settings\username
Once you have this .pst file, go to the OPEN->OUTLOOK DATA FILE, then find your archive.pst file (filename may be outlook.pst, or if you've called it something else).
Then you will see both your regular outlook stuff (calendar, contacts, inbox, etc.) as well as the archived version (probably identical, if it backed up everything, if not don't fret).
Next, select the folder you want to COPY (or move) such as INBOX. When that is highlighted, RIGHT-CLICK&HOLD to DRAG that folder to the Open archived folder, and drop it there, since you right-clicked, it will ask if you want to move or copy. Pick one.
Do this with EVERYTHING you want to move (calendar, contacts, saved mail, etc.). Then close this outlook.
NEXT: go to the location of the .pst file (again, default is the C:\Documents and Setting\... that I mentioned above).
COPY this file to your other partition, or put it on CD-R (or external HD, mine was over 1 GB...).
NEXT: Open the "other" Outlook (re-boot, whatever) and OPEN->OUTLOOK DATA FILE and open the .pst file we've been working with.
Then you'll see both open archived and regular outlook folders. Here, do not copy like we did before, instead, you must go to each folder and select all the items (in the right window) like e-mail, etc. and copy them to your existing outlook inbox/contacts/etc. If you do not already have the folders shown (for instance, if in the original Outlook you had a "Saved e-mail" folder that is NOT in the "other" outlook, then you CAN drag the whole folder from the archive to the outlook folder.
It sounds more complicated than it is, but this is the quickest way I was able to move about 3 years worth of e-mail and thousands of contacts.
