hard drive clunk noise from e1705

My month old 1705 orginally came with a WD 120 gb 5400 rpm drive. The drive worked fine but every once in a while (about every 15 min), it would make a "clunk" noise. Called dell and they sent me a replacement fujitsu hd. this hd does the same thing. Everything else works fine. Is this a normal thing or did i get two duds in a row?

My 80GB 7200RPM Hitachi doesn't make any noise. Are you sure it's the hard drive?

yes it is definitely the hd. I can hear the hard drive make the normal loading noise right before it makes the "clunk".

I get a sound from the HDD, I think it's when it's going into standby, but it's more of a 'ping' sound. I've had four of these laptops and three of them made this sound. All of them worked fine though.

... maybe the drive head parking itself.. mine does that when the laptop is idle
