Does anyone have some info on this notebook?

looks pretty sweet, just the nVidia® GeForce™ FX Go5200 vid card that'd hold me back.

In case you wanted to know who the ODM is, it is the Mitac 8060.

Yep same here... I wouldnt settle for that (a 5200) if I were going to be going for a huge notebook like that. If you are going to go big... why not go big all the way (well mmm not 8790 big).

ya but the aluminum alloy case is so tempting! haha

Bleh aluminum shluminum. What do you do that you would need an aluminum casing for? Besides that, are you sure the whole casing is aluminum?

Wouldnt be surprised if only part of it is.

i'm one of those odd people who like their notebook to look nice, i.e. I'd spend money on a paintjob. I think the winbook just looks awsome, i checked out the specs and it says all magnesium alloy casing.

not to say that i'd but this lappy but it seemed like a good option until I saw the video card limitations.

magnesium.. what's the difference just out of curiosity?

I assume that magnesium will be more durable but heavier. But since these are alloys I really have no clue.

Magnesium is alloy is typically lighter then aluminum. The lightest rims available for my Porsche (back when I was single and could spend money foolishly) was not the forged aluminums (which were much lighter then the cast aluminum ones), they were Magnesium alloys.

Why do you guys think aluminum (or magnesium) is a waste of money. If its done right it is much stronger and nicer looking than plastic. Personally, if I'm spending $2000 on a machine I use everyday, I want it too at least look somewhat nice.

I agree. But only to a point. (This is not the same as saying you're wrong).

I can see value in a better looking computer. But not too much (function over form for me).

I can see value in a stronger computer. But the actual computer won't be stronger, only the shell. When was the last time you broke (or saw someone else do so) a laptop case? Having a case that might survive hardships the guts do not, is not too important to me.

But all that said, I would have paid an extra hundred bucks or so for a prettier (metal) version of my laptop.

I would steer clear of Winbooks...I was considering the J series when I started looking for a desktop replacement notebook but there's a myriad of information showing their products to be poor quality, service to be horrible, etc. etc. etc.!

that's my exact philosophy.. i spend many hours a day on my computer and for it to look nice, while not at the top of the list, it is important. ahh well, I guess you could say I'm a tool of corporate america.. well maybe not because then I'd be buying a Dell.

Isn't it the ODM that matters in this case? I'll do some looking to see if anyone else carries the Mitac 8060 just for curiosity sake.

Yes..but the reseller is important too as far as service goes..however..it would appear that Mitac's build quality isn't up to par...thus the reason why only Winbook uses them lol

Believe it or not, Voodoo and Hypersonic uses it too. But I think its a lack of choice: the only AMD64 notebooks are made by Mitac and Arima. Arima is of even poorer quality.
