So, I got my lovely Dell E1505 today, and like I have heard I re-formated the computer nad re-installed Windows. However, it seems to have partitioned the hardrive and now has two seperate windows on it. How can I delete the one I created and keep hte one Dell had installed on it?

It seems as though it deleted all the files that are usually held in the D:/ drive. In my computer I can go into the D:/ drive and it shows Program files, My Documents, Windows, etc.

Also when I start the computer it ask we which Windows I would like to load.

You need to delete the first partition that windows was on in the beginning. I'd go through and do a reinstall of windows again, but delete the partitions on the hard drive and then create a new partition within the XP setup. I'm going from regular XP setup though and not a dell XP setup. I cannot remember if they are different. Someone else probably does though.

It also seems like the Windows XP that was installed does not have widescreen resolutions and doesn't have wireless clients to get online.

Start over again, and use those instructions. If you are a novice to reformatting or you had never done it before, you shouldn't have tried to reformat in the first place because it is not something that you just hit a button and your computer is new...

And yes, the clean version of Windows XP will be running at 640x480 (not widescreen) and will not have wireless drivers. After installing Windows the correct way from the link above, you need to go to dell.com, look up your computer, and download drivers. Not every driver is necessary, so you will need to pick only the ones you need, and if you're not sure then I guess you will have to ask someone to hold your hand.

Also some advice, try making a coherent topic name that describes your problem. You may be wondering why not many people have helped you yet, the topic is probably the reason. You would get much more help by naming the topic something like "Two partitions after reinstalling Windows" or even just "Reformatting problems" but definitely not "Helllpp" with a million exclamation marks.

Well, yeah, I figures out the whole "Help" topic wasnt' a good idea a little after I posted, but on must forums I go to they ahve a 30 minute edit time, so I didn't even think about changing it.

And I read one tutorial thing and it said you just followed the directions that windows gives you, thats why I did it. But I guess I did something wrong.

I'm talking with Dell currently, and if they can't help, I follow the guide. Thanks a lot.

I wouldn't count on Dell to help you with that

Yeah, the Windows setup is pretty straightforward, except Dell also has the recovery partition and the MediaDirect partition, along with the Windows partition. It complicates things a bit, and that's where the link I gave you comes in handy.

Well, so far it doesn't look like dell will help, so it looks like I shall resort to the guide.

So, I just got done with Dell. Their sending me a whole bunch of software and driver cds. So once I get those, I'll do the tutoral.

Oh, you didn't have the CDs??? I had assumed you already got the CDs via their support or paying the $10 during the ordering stage. Yes, the CDs are the way to go for reformatting. Bookmark this thread and reply to it to bump it to the top of this section when you get the CDs. Also PM me if you have any questions as you go through the tutorial, I usually check this site at least once a day so I will probably respond quick enough if you absolutely can't figure something out.

Well, the only Cd I had was the Windows XP one. Also the HD Audio one. Other than that I didn't have any.

These mean that you don't have any drivers for those particular devices. Based on no wireless you can bet one of those devices is your wireless card. As for the other two, idk, could be many things. Do you have a Bluetooth adapter? If so that could be one of them. And maybe vid card driver, idk.

Well, I talked to Dell, and they helped me out. I guess my Wireless card is the 1500 Draft-N. Also the other Base System Devices were the chipset which I could have sworn I installed.
