seems like w/ new bios, screen doesn't go black when i close lid.

Wasn't having any problems but updated anyway just cause I have this stupid obsession with always having the newest drivers/software/whatever (despite knowing BIOS updates can potentially screw things up and shouldn't be done unless there is an issue to be resolved).

Haven't noticed anything except that the setting was changed from Mic to Line In on my sound card. Good thing I noticed that before trying to make a VoIP call and ended up wondering why the hell the next person couldn't hear me.

so is there really a reason that i shouldnt get the new BIOS?

thanks, moved from 03 to 09, now static noise in headphones almost disappeared. Noise is there only when laptop is plugged in, not on battery. On the other hand, system fan inside seems to be always on now, would like to have it off most of the time as before. I8kfanGUI version 3.0 beta 7 turns fan off for a second and than it comes back on. I need to have it off! Do I need to use older bios?

I hadn't noticed the fan thing, but I'll see if it's happening to me too when I get home (where my lappy is). Have other people also experienced this problem?

I have problems with fan too. But i can not say, whether this is related with the new BIOS.
Thermal Updates have been done in the A08 Release, so i would want to give the A07 BIOS a try. Unfortunately, i do not know how to downdate a bios?
go to Dell Support - downloads - bios update. Pick older versions. Can't get older bios exe file to start though under WinXP. Gives me 'error' sound. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the Reply. Running the older bios-update exe file works for me neither- nothing happens. Perhaps there is a magic option to the updater?

Downgrading to A08 works, but anything <=A07 (which would undo the thermal control update) doesn't work. The only thing left seems to be to wait for the A10 Update, and/or ask Dell for a solution.
