There isn't an option for it yet -maybe the other CPUs are in short supply?...

http://store.agearnotebooks.com/asusa8jms.html nvm heh i think i found it. looks like you can upgrade to 2.33 core 2 duo
post #24 of 44
That link takes you to the A8JM page, though they do offer customization on the A8JS up to 2.33 GHz for an extra $490. Seems a little steep.

Edit: My A8JS from Portable One shipped today. It's scheduled to arrive Monday, at which time I'll post lots of benchmarks, pics, and impressions.

whoops your right heh. yah it does. would there really be a difference in performance from 2.0 to 2.33?
Of course, but not $500 worth (at least in my opinion).

Only when running benchmark programs -day to day real world applications won't benefit much. In order to really see a difference, without a stop watch, you have to pretty much double the speed of the CPU...

I am considering an A8Js and will be interested to hear all of your impressions of the LCD. I saw a post on Notebookreview Forum that said "The A8Js screen has a little light leakage, but it is VERY crisp and bright. Mediocre viewing angles tho."

I would like to hear some more opinions of the LCD before I pull the trigger. How does it compare to other laptops screens, etc.?

I think the guy who made that post had never used a laptop and was use to viewing a CRT. He made another post later on that he likes the LCD now that he's been using it for a few days, and the CRT doesn't look as sharp as the screen on the A8Jm...

Yeah, I read that. Since this will be my first laptop I am more interested in how the screen compares to other lappys out there.

The only experience I have with laptops is my wife's Dell D400 from work which is slower than Christmas but the screen looks OK to me.

The CPU, GPU, memory and screen resolution are what have me interested in the A8Js. I know I won't be able to play the latest and greatest games on it with all the eye candy I am used to with my desktop but would like to game a little on it.
Actually the 7700Go in the A8Js will surprise you -a lot of people are reporting that they can play a lot of the current games with all the eye candy maxed out -including Oblivion...

the a8js looks really great compared to other screens looking straight at it.

It has a worse viewing angle than even older tech laptops from years past.

Both those things are true living together in the screen.

The light leakage is considered better than other screens from mass produced models. It comes from the bottom middle. It is mild but you can see it. It is not leak free.

my overclock 05 score exceeds the score of the 7600 gt stock setting... this only makes sense since it is a 7600 gt with lower speed ram.

even though the min recomended spec of oblivian is an x800 or 6800. compare the stats on the 7700 to a x800 its a little complicated becuase it has more of some things less of others.

I do believe that even though they say they want a 256 mb interface that oblivian is going to run faster on the 7700 go. It is at least close to overlap to say the 7700 go is about the level of a 68000 go

I have been following the A8Js threads over at NotebookReview.com. I am really disappointed to hear about the crappy viewing angles, light leakage and coffee grinder DVD drive. Not what I really want since I would like to watch DVDs on it with the wife also.

Guess I will have to wait for another 14"-15.4" laptop with the Go 7700 or settle for one with the 7600 or ATI 1600.

Any recommendations?

coffee grinder dvd drive? i've never heard of that before. what does it do to your cds, dvds?
Here are some quotes from owners.
"Also, I've noticed that the DVD unit is pretty freakin loud too."
"the DVD drive is loud as all hell."
"The drive is quite loud"
It doesn't do anything to the disks. It's just LOUD.

ive had mine for a week and i can tell u all that its awsome
the dvd noice is tolerable and i dont really notice any light leakage from the lcd screen the only down side to me is that the plastic is softish meening it scratches a bit either then that i love this laptop to death im playing games using visual c++ i love it
post #39 of 44
What about the horizontal viewing angles? Can two people watch a DVD and both have a crisp picture or do I need a 15.4" screen for that?
its not bad i work at futureshop in canada and i can tell u that there are worse out there but its not the best if u sit far enough from it like on a table and sit on a couch it works
