My cat killed my M90. Need new Mobo!

We had a little accident with bottled spring water and killed my M90. My cat accidently knocked it over my keyboards while I was out. Unfortunately the cat survived and killed the motherboard of M90. Anybody have suggestion on where to get one and how much it's going to be? I tried ebay but no luck. I don't want to go to Dell yet. Just want to check before I go to Dell.

Thanks.

Who else can it be? My home was clearly locked. I even said goodbye to her laying on my desk.

I just found out last Sat. night, I am truly not a cat person. Thought about endless ways to torture this feline, but I just locked her in the cage for a day and send it back to my parents house where she came from.

That is an expensive bottle of water, isn't it?

It truly is a most expensive bottle of water I've drank so far. I have drank more expensive a bottle of drink before, but this will be the most memorable one.

I got my motherboard off ebay for $400, but it also came with palmrest, bluetooth, and bottom base, and it was for the XPS M1710. The M1710 and the M90 use the same motherboard. The problem with that is they're very rare finds; i think the one I got was the 2nd type to be sold on ebay. The first m1710/m90 board/base was like $800 without videocard, memory, processor, etc.

Another option would be getting a 9400 base/motherboard off of ebay. They go for like $200-230 and the only difference between that and the m1710/m90 boards are the BIOS setup and the d/dock expansion port. But if there is one on ebay, I say go for it.

edit: I just read that you had no luck with ebay. Try ebaystores (www.ebaystores.com) instead. I got mine off this guy. His ID: dnksalescomputers. Try him, good luck.

examples:

but the ones listed don't have the d/dock port from what i could see in the pictures

Two words: Hair dryer. Cook that thing until it's bone dry (you might want to remove some of the case components first), then call Dell and play dumb. "Gee, my computer stopped working - not sure why", etc. Then get them to replace it either via on-site or depot warranty service.

No reason to be "Ghandi" here... :-)

Unless it was on when the water was spilled on it, then there's nothing that can be done.

Poor cat

Everyone's cursing the cat, but I doubt the cat put the open water bottle next to the M90 before it got knocked over. Somone should should lock Cool1Net6 in a cage for a day, then ship him off to his parents!!! (BTW, I'm not a cat person, either, but still, who's the "adult" here?)

OH, I might add that just drying out the components has worked wonders in the past (assuming it didn't fry anything if it was left on). Just disassemble it, let all the components dry out (even with the help of a heat blower or hair dryer). Then put it back together. It's only water!

Like I always tell my customers. NEVER leave your Laptop open with cats in the house. Cats for some reason are too much like Reptiles and will find the hottest spot to lay in when it's three digits hot outside. They do this especially indoors with items that generate alot of heat. Like the refridgerator or an open Laptop computer that is powered on. Kitty just LOVES them.

As far as you getting an E1705/9400 motherboard. Mind you those boards will not work with an M90's Quadro card. The BIOS Has a hardware whitelist so to speak. It won't even boot with the Quadro installed.

Aye a good drying would do the trick, if it was spring water and nothing flavored with sugar etc, I think you can give them, my lappy died treatment. There will most likely no residue of any kind being just water.

The thing about water is that contrary to popular belief, it is pretty non-conductive. It is whats IN the water that helps it to conduct electricity. If it were distilled water, it probably wouldn't hurt anything. (Spring water might still have some minerals in it) But, you must realize that as soon as that water leaves the bottle and hits something relatively dirty, such as a laptop, it pick up whatever dirt is on the surface and will now be conductive. But there is always hope that maybe you got lucky and it didnt become conductive enough to cause a problem. Open it up (so the insides can completley dry out) let it sit for a day or two and try again.
