If so I would really like to get my hands on the bios to test if it can be flashed to a 7900.

My delivery isn't till Nov 10th. I sure like to know if anyone is getting one sooner.

im a newb when it comes to bios flashing, what exactly are u hoping that the bios can do?

The 7950 GTX is simply an OC-ed 7900 GTX. You really think theyd go through all the trouble of developing a new card when DX10 will be out next month? Hell no, there working on a 8800 Go for the next gen XPS.

And yes, you can flash the bios to OC it. I have a 7900 GTX flashed to 600/700, 100% stable, barely any extra heat.

But I wouldnt count on the DX card to show up for a few months possibly even until Santa Rosa platform. The 7950 is a great choice if money is no object.

i know that you can flash the bios to OC it. I've tried that (unsuccesfully) but what do you hope to gain by flashing the 7950 bios to the 7900? can that even be done?

you couple the 7950 with the T7600G and you can overclock both, talk about a monster

Member Zyb has mentioned that you won't be able to do it. Not sure how he know though.

Ya he never explained but looking at the specs and chip everything is identical. We were able to flash a 7800 Go to a 7800 GTX and the card still functioned because the chips were the same.

Anyone really knowledgable about the cards able to chime in? Is this going to be possible or not. Everything I am reading says it will.

Zyb did you try it already?

I know they wont be here for awhile, i wasnt saying wait for a DX10 Go solution, as they may not even fit into current laptops. I meant that the 7950 is not some new greater card, its just a small revision of the 7900 GTX clocked higher, and that they would be working on a DX10 solution, not wasting time making a new DX9 card. Anyone with a 7900 GTX would be throwing money away to say they officially have a 7950, thats all.

Your post was not clear on that.

No, i haven't tried it. Why you ask well the GPU is a 7950 which is a tweaked version of 7900 gpu and it uses different (faster) memory. The setting on the gpu and memory are different from the 7900gtx. If you are a bois hacking guru that you may be tweak it to work but then whats the point. You would have to tune the setting back the the original 7900 specs for it to function 100%.

Disclaimer: This is the info I have been told and as such it may not be 100% accurate. (so if I was misinformed)

Could you make a backup of your 7950 with Nbitor and post it in this thread? Then the Bios gurus can see if it will work or not.

According to my research both the 7900 GTX and the 7950 GTX have GDDR3 memory.

Please correct me if I am wrong but everything about the cards are identical except the bios and clocks.
they may have ddr3 but different memory timings/speeds...makes a considerable difference when overclocking/bios flashing!

Point me into the direction where I can buy a 7950 W/O buying a whole new laptop and I'm there I'd be willing to pay up to 650 for it.
