Help! DVI D to HDMI - Page 2

You should probably update to some new drivers, they basicly automaticly set up your TV for you. You can also add a custom resolution if the one you want isn't selectable.

Maaaaan what a dissapointment, i was suggested to get this digital cable to keep the signal clear and crisp, now i'm stuck in the weirdest resolution ever (1200x668), so close to native res. but no cigar. still looks good, but it has that "non native res. look". I even had to sit around from 8-5 one day wait for the package to arrive because the post office they shipped it to was an hour away.

Oh well maybe i can put it up on ebay, or trade it for a more inexpensive Analog cable.

Anyone?

Edit: If i can't find someone to trade with i'l prob just buy the 5$ cable, man, why did i spend 40$ when there were ones that can run native res. for 5$, if only i would have known.

kevt, Another thing to consider is some TVs might only accept certain resolutions. Look in the manual at the specifications and it should say what resolutions it will accept on the vga input. If nothing above 1024x768 is listed you might be out of luck.

||T34418L3|1||, Don't feel bad, the picture quality should br great and there will be no signal loss so using the digital is awesome for movies (a DVD will be much lower resolution than 1360x768 anyway so native does not matter here). It's just a resolution issue that can be annoying on the desktop doing work and when gaming it can be a pain to get the oddball resolution if the game doesn't support it.

I hope you have as much luck as I did and I hope your TV doesn't differ from all the ones I tried out back in March. It was funny arguing with the sales people about it who might understand the technology and why it should be better, but they simply have not tried it yet and see the actual problems you can have with digital. They looked at me and said "What? Why would you use that old vga input when you can go digital all the way?" When I showed them the overscan issue, and that it was impossible to run native resolution they were dumbfounded. I bet if you go to some audio video forums you might find people who have gotten into thier TV's service mode and either reduced or eliminated the overscan, but that may cause problems when viewing other media designed to actually have overscan.

Thanks dajohu, the manual says it accepts 1360x768. It gives me all the timings front porch, back porch, etc. I downloaded Nvidia 84.63 drivers from laptopvideo2go and installed them. They give me the chance to set custom resolutions and advanced timings, but when I enter 1360x768 I get a message 'The custom resolution cannot be added'. When I use powerstrip, and try to add the resolution, it dissappears on restart. I did once manage to get 1280x768, not sure how, but Windows tiled my desktop and I could effectively only use 1024x768. It's so frustrating. Heaven knows how people manage to get these things to work. Could I be needing a monotor driver? At the moment I'm using 'analogue monitor', and it can't seem to detect the displays information.

How could you even say that? Just by looking??? I suppose you can tell how fast a car is by looking at it too?

That is very possible. My LCD is detected as a Sony LCD and already had all the possible resolutions the TV can handle. That is, when I'm using the VGA input. On the HDMI I had to create custom resolutions as ||T34418L3|1|| did to eleminate overscan and run at native resolution.

Its true you cannot judge a book by its cover but if you saw a car for way below MSRP would you not question it especially from an unknown brand/make?
