How do i turn of my second core?

got a sentia m3450 core 2 duo here and ive been having some fan hyperactivity problems some others have been experiencing, so i figure maybe i could turn off a core when doing lite work so i dont piss of the people in front of me in class, cuz not only do they not have a badass alien ware lappy, but they have to listen to me tap away on mines

any help gettin my lap top more quiet would be greatly appreciated and also boosting the sound (cant hear voices too well)

I forget if you can turn a core off or not, but that wouldn't lower the CPU temp or affect the fans. In fact, the Core Duo and Core 2 Duos run impressively low on temp.

If your classmates are so bothered by the fan your Sentia either has its intake vent blocked, your processor is running too hot or their really anal.

Hey Samur Eye, does your fan come on like 5 mins after turning on your laptop and stay running? Mine does that and I cannot stand it. If I am in the quiet study room at the library, the noise is very irritating. My old compaq turns on at 54c, and shuts off at 50c, but the fan is totally whisper quiet. This AW turns on at like 42c and never turns off, so it's not like it's running hot or anything, besides the fan is loud. I am wondering if anyone elses fan shuts off after turning on or if they all stay on.

See, mine turns on at about 45-48 and shuts off once it's under 45. Unless Im gaming or have it on for long extended periods of time I never hear the fan.

thats exactly it, it turns on no matter what after 5 mins, which makes it very hard for me to watch a movie all together, and no they are not anal, it really is quite anoying. im not to sure how to work speed fan or NHC to slow my fan. have you guys had sound probs?
can i do anything about the intake valve on my own?

NHC doesn't let you change trip points for fans and currently SpeedFan doesn't work with the 945GM chipset in the Sentia for detecting RPMs and changing fan settings.

Make sure nothing is blocking the fan outside and inside. My fan doesn't get loud enough to even be heard over music, games or movies even at 20% volume, ever. Yours shouldn't either.

The big panel on the bottom of the Sentia with the intake fan is the one you want to remove. Just unscrew it with a small phillips screwdriver and blow out the fan and heatsink with some compressed air. It's good to do this ever so often.

You know, my fan really never kicks on except a few seconds at bootup and I have run some major programs at the same time, i can get the fan to kick on if I change my video settings for a few seconds, but beyond that no highspeed fan kickon that I can hear after hours of use.

Makes me wonder if possibly the thermopaste on your cpu is not done right, I remember one user here had his overheating fans kicking on all the time etc etc and ended up being a thermopaste issue (not enough applied or something to that nature).

Might be worth a call to AW on at least if you are not comfortable checking and or re-doing the thermal paste.

Also possibly try a can of air into cracks and such maybe something has some dust buildup and is causing a airflow block? Not sure if it's proper to blow in or suck out with a vac but maybe that would help to check too???

I guess I got lucky here, actually thought mine might kick on more since I got the 2.0 core 2 duo processor and a 7200 rpm hd but so far I can push push push it and rarely hear a fan.

Oh one last suggestion as a possible help, consider one of those cooler pads? Mine is whisper quiet, and does make about a 5-7 degree difference when in use, that might be enough to keep those sentia fans from kicking in?

Hi,

I'm also having this problem.

After 5 mins of running, the fans turn on and it's irrating.

I investigate the prob, and remove the cpu heatsink.

I discover that the cpu is not very bigger than a nforce 4 chipset, and this is great.

Explanation : I built a desktop this year with full watercooling with innovatek product, and i bought a pad for the nforce4 chipset for inserting it between the chipset and the waterblock, here it is :

http://www.webshop-innovatek.de/0000...490ef4201.html

I'll order this item and will try it, and also applying artic silver 5, and will also post ics about this.

I hope it'll help to make a better cooling, but it surely not doing the whole job, this will be totally fxed with a new bios or when speedfan will be compatible with the chipset.

Update :

It seems that the author of speedfan is currently working on the core duo and the core 2 duo sensor problems.

It seems that the author needs helps, if there are some coders here, maybe you could have a look at this page :
