8600 Monitor frame crack

Hi all,

Well, if you've read my other posts, I think I've opted to just keep my 8600 as its a solid machine and I'd rather not go through the hassle of selling it / buying a new one.

That being said, I want to ensure its going to last as long as possible. I have a crack running from the the top left corner above the left hinge (but the little rubber stopper) creeping up toward the monitor diagonally. I know this is a common fault with the 8600 as many class mates of mine have this particular laptop and have the same thing happening to them.

I still have a complete care warranty going on, but I don't have "at-home." The other issues I've had (bad batteries, AC adapter, and optical drives) were all easily user-serviceable and they just overnighted me the new part. To have them fix this, I'm likely to have to send it in, aren't I? At this point, are they even fixing the 8600? Would I get a different machine back or would they still have the pieces-parts around to just but a new bezel around the screen and send it back?

Thanks!

They should have some replacement parts still available, if not you might get lucky and they will send you a replacement laptop which will probably be a E1705 because of your current specs ...but don't count on it, I'm sure they will find the parts they need to fix your laptop, but either way call them and have it sent in....

I had the monitor frame on my 600m replaced. They sent the tech guy and it took him about 10 miuntes tops to do. Dell should still have parts for the 8600 too.
