possible f/s: 17" macbook pro

Ive had a 17" mbp for about 4 months now. its a fantastic machine, and its in tip top shape. 2.16ghz core duo, 120gb sata 5400 rpm hdd, 1 gb ram (i'll be willing to throw in another 1gb stick for $60), x1600 256mb graphics card (runs beautifully - max settings, still running above 50 fps on all the games i've ran), integrated iSight, 8x dvd DL - rw drive, you know the drill. Also 3 year AppleCare warranty (bought @ the time I bought the comp). im entertaining selling it for a number of reasons, and im trying to see what offers people are willing to make. Id like to sell it for 2700 (incl applecare and shipping) - 2760 with the ram. Its in mint condition, cleaned every week with iKlean. Don't take it out of my room unless its to dj. Ive got a couple more gigs I need to do before I can sell it.

sorry if this is in the wrong forum...please let me know if i should post this somewhere else.

id be willing to trade for an acer ferrari 5000/dell inspiron i9400/equivalent. basically a core duo, or core2, or athlon equivalent. x1600 256 minimum. My main thing is the warranty. I like accidental damage coverage, and given i can get that with acer and dell completecare...well you get the picture. im a mobile dj, as well as amateur filmmaker, so i need something with good processor power and good video rendering capability.

given what i paid for the mbp, id be willing to take a pc equivalent for around $2200 plus $400 in cash on top of that. but thats all negotiable if i can find the right kind of laptop.

sorry if i sound picky, but details can always be worked out.

Being the owner of a 17" PowerBook and MBP, your basically asking retail price. Chill out a bit, why would anyone want to buy a used system when they can get it brand new at retail pricing with a new 1 year warranty?

Also, if they're smart enough to they will get an educational discount knocking off another $200-$300 or so (granted that +/- some $$$ too!). If most can get the same exact system what would make them want your MBP? Give them something along with the system and you might get some attention.

Another factor you've haven't mentioned - what kind of condition is it in, being a DJ means you take it to plenty of gigs which to me could translate to surface scuffs and/or scratches, and what about soft dings or dents - accidents do happen. Lastly, are there any dead pixels or any other blemishes or problems with the system?

I'm also sure you know that the Core 2 Duo's are coming out in the MB's and MBP and being an Apple Developer I can guarantee you not are they only going to be priced accordingly, they most likely wil be priced at the same amount you paid or less. Apple is after market share and I'd bet on the lower price so they could grab that market share they're after.

Finally, unless your pricing it so someone is getting an incredible deal, which by the way your not, most people who would spend that amount of money would jump at the Core 2 Duo - which is what your after isn't it - instead of a Core Duo.

I've tried selling my systems to and have run into the same roadblock, we always want top dollar for what we sell but we never get it. Perhaps you might get the strong suggestion and either lower the price or lower your expectations just a bit, be a bit realistic about what your asking for.

fair enough. education on a 17 would 2599 (say 2600). add on another 170 for applecare, brings it back up to 2770. apple wireless mighty mouse which is 70, winxp pro home, 80, call of duty 2, 50, 1gb stick of ram, 80. the computer itself is in great condition. even though i'm mobile with it rarely, i keep it in mint condition. cleaned every week with iKlean (or iKlear...whatever it is). Yea, it looks like its at list price but that includes all the aforementioned accessories. Not to mention, im not including tax, and i'm including shipping. The depreciated value of the laptop is still being taken into consideration.

I'm completely realistic about what i'm selling. I understand if it may seem little much right now, and ill probably be dropping the price within the next couple of days. im entertaining offers and seeing what is out there.

As for apple's market share - well, apple doesnt really know how to gain market share in the laptop department. never have, and never will. just because a bunch of rich college kids like to buy cute little white laptops, doesnt mean anything when the mass majority of americans who use laptops, will opt for a $700 dell to suit their needs. Apple's market share is based on innovation, and its only beause nobody has been able to figure out how to make something better than the ipod. Apple only has marketshare in one area, and tahts personal mobile media devices. so let's not talk about market share.

All of these installs have worked amazingly well for me. Even Photoshop CS2 runs pretty well in rosetta. At least fast enough for what I need it for. FCP - hands down the best video editor out there. I'll put all the installers on the local hd if you wish, or burn them to dvd.

I'm not sure if you're allowed to do that here.. I know on other forums, unless you have full licenses for the software that you list, you're not allowed to advertise that you have them. Of course, this is assuming full licenses don't come with these since it'd be well over $500 for the licenses alone.

yeah dude, watch the illegals... do that through PM if you have to. Just restate that you have "extras" you are including, PM for details... Im not meaning to encourage piracy either, but sometimes you have to do what you gotta do to get s$!# done.

Anyway, I think for trade you are asking too little. In trade you have to look retail to retail, and for you that pretty much means you are in the XPS1710 range. I would accept nothing less with what you are offering. Even if it just has the 7900GS video, it will smoke your little mac. Do trade Ram for Ram if you can. and maybe delete this thread and make another titled:
FS/FT Nice Macbook Pro for Cash or ?

Inside the thread detail specifics about what you want to trade. Cash, used M1710 or top of the line 1705/9400. I have seen a lot of Mac/PC trading going on as people dont know what is best for them.

You do know though, you can run your macbook as a native PC notebook right? Like having the best of both worlds.... I have a 1710 and my neighbor has a top of the line macbook pro and if it werent for the graphics card, I would have a macbook myself.

thanks for the heads up about the progs. so yea, pm for details on software.

ahem

im starting to strongly consider the latter of turning it into a full fledged windows notebook. the thing is, and the reason why i want to sell it, is because for the potential of what i can make, id rather buy a pc eqivalent for around 2200 or so, then pocket the rest of the cash or use it to buy dj equipment.
would you consider trading DJ equipment?

I have a DJM-800 and a Ecler Nuo-5.

After this weekend, ive realized that it is in fact completely pointless for me to sell this thing. Not only do I need two operating systems simply because of Final Cut Pro, Serato Scratch Live works 10x better on the mac side than on the windows side.

That being said, im ending the sale, and i appreciate all the feedback and offers I've gotten thusfar, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

Have you seen the Apple Web Site today? I was telling you exactly went came about BEFORE it did! BUT, the only thing is Apple is now giving you 2GB of RAM included, a 160GB HD standard but upgradable up to 200GB, the 1st and ONLY manufacturer to offer both standard and as an upgrade and off for the SAME EXACT PRICE!

I told ya dude, we're stuck with these unless you take a beating and I personally don't like not think such a beating is even warranted. This has got to be the most incredible offering yet by Apple. There's only one notebook standing in the way and Apple making a direct hit and leaving the rest (notebooks) behind.

Wonder what that system is?

I'm typing on it to write this to you, a Dell XPS M1710. There is no better notebook in the same league as an XPS M1710, um, that was until Apple let loose earlier today. For $2,799 you can't really beat that price for what your getting and imagine an educational discount on top of that, your in the neighborhood of $2,499 for a MacBook Pro!

Find a trophy case for that notebook you have now by the way, and may I give you a tip please, don't ever be an early adopter but especially with Apple. Being among the first to have the newest kid on the block comes with a HUGE risk. The next model is always 2x as much of a system than the first.

This just dropped the value of 17" PowerBooks to well below $1,500 if not even less than that! Damn we're going to lose our butts off. The only thing possibly making it worth even that much is the fact that Adobe isn't going to release Creative Suite 3 until early 2007. Those needing portability will keep their present 17" PowerBooks or hopefully grab a perfect system like mine, NOT!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but if you haven't already heard.

I have a Core 2 Duo in my XPS M1710 and there is a performance increase, a substantial performace increase! I have a 1.66GHz Mac mini Core Duo and comparing a basically equal system although with a Core 2 Duo. The system running the Core 2 Duo is consistently running at least 25% faster (approximately), and that's just a basic configuration. Take into account a system maxed out and ready to eat an Acer here and a HP there for breakfast. Hell that's not even including running much cooler, using less power and increasing battery life.

This MacBook Pro is the first system to offer a 200GB (although a 4200 rpm F!@#$%^!!!) WITHOUT RAID support, Others are trying it but with Dual HD's running RAID 0. Most people - me INCLUDED can use that extra 40 - 60GB of storage space on ONE disk when it comes time for video rendering. Now I won't have to carry an external HD because of the extra 40 - 60GB, plus I can add that same extra GIG of Apple RAM I bought into this system and get FULL USE out of the ENTIRE 3GB of RAM - which by the way is where these Core 2 Duo's excel.

Contrary to what you may think Unc...this is a HUGE announcement and introduction of arguably one of the best notebooks ever released, not just for Apple - it's hands down the best notebook they've ever released. I'm talking among the top five STOCK notebooks EVER released. PERIOD! And to remind you and all those whom may disagree - this is for an incredible $2,799.00, and $2,499.00 for the eligible for the Education Discount.

There isn't one manufacturer who can go head to head with the release of this MacBook Pro! It has the cool factor, an all aluminum case just about an thin, but lastly, it going to have Leopard. And let let personally tell you, Leopard ROCKS! If I had to choose between Leopard or Vista, Leopard is already blowing Vista away. Leopard is that cool! I wish I could share - but you know how that goes, a promise is a promise, so secrets shall remain secrets!!!
