I lost my Dell Inspiron 6000!!!!!! :(

Thread Starter
I'm in college, 4th year, and I bought a laptop before moving to the city and to this new school. Well, I was in the library around noon and I got an email saying I needed to print out the research paper I sent to my instructor via an attachment. She said she wanted a hard copy of it, so seeing as I was using a laptop without wireless printer access, I had to go to the computer lab which was right across the room about 10 feet away. When I got back, the laptop was missing, but the AC adapter and everything else was left intact, including the laptop bag, sleeve, my textbooks, and schoolbag.

Now, I think I have accidental as well as the standard warranty still on my I6000. Is the warranty covered for stolen laptops? What information needs to be given to Dell in order for them to process and submit the claim successfully?

Thanks.........

i doubt that, report it stolen to the police.......

and you didnt lose it, it was stolen, you left it for some person to swipe...

This is no longer in Dell's hand your going to have to file a police report and hope for the best that where ever this place is has a video camera to catch the incident.

For all other users NEVER leave your notebook unattended even for a minute. Most cases of stolen notebooks only a fraction of a percent come back with happy endings.

As DELL-Machina noted, Your regular and complete care warranty do not cover lost or stolen Items, sorry but its in the hands of the police now........

seriously u cant do anything about it but ask whereever u lost it to lost and found. Cops doesnt care. Dell wont replace it. Everyone thinks college is so safe that everyone dont lock their dorm rooms or just leave their stuff on the table. If I were a thief I could have stolen alot of ipods and laptops

doesn't complete care come with some kind of internet tracking? maybe the i6k is too old, but my m1710 came with some kind of tracking, no clue how it works but i remember reading about it

No Complete care only covers damage, not theft, there is no tracking included in that. Dell Laptops have LoJack support built-in but you have to pay for it.

This is why I put a BIOS PW on my laptop for startup. Yes, it's an extra few secs when I boot, but it's priceless if it gets stolen. Definitely call Dell and tell them your laptop was stolen, that way they can flag the service tag. The place I did support for would run the serial # on the laptop and if it came back stolen, we'd tell the person we needed to do a repair and we'd send shipping boxes to them and then keep the laptop and contact the owner once we recovered it, usually giving it back to them. Usually the theives called in trying to reset the BIOS password, and we lied and told them it had to be done in house. Don't know if the BIOS can be reset on most Dells, but that's another reason I put a password on it, so they'll have to call in usually. Also, if you're at college and your parents have home owners insurance, they can file a claim since everything you own is covered under a normal home owners policy as long as you're in a Dorm. Just got the deductible to worry about, which is probably half the price of the lappy, but it's worth checking into.
