Should I use Intel PROSet Wireless?

I was wondering if this was any good or if i should use the default windows wireless network thingy?

if it matters, i have an inspiron 6400/e1505 wiht the intel 3945 wireless abg card....

I have used the intel pro set and the standard windows wireless and I dont notice any diffrence what so ever in signal or anything else, the intel proset is a little licer to look at if you want it a little more esthetically pleasing. But aside from that I dont know if there is any realy diffrence between them.

If you're going to let Microsoft manage your wireless NIC instead of the Intel wireless utility then you'll want the SSID enabled on your router - especially if there are other wireless networks close enough for you to connect to.

Read the 2nd section about the SSID and the last section about dropped connections on this page.

PROSet takes more memory

Intel PROSet does provide more functions and easier UI. But it takes much more memory too. If your laptop has less than 1G memory, then better stick with WinXP build-in Wireless function.

no need for proset. you can unzip the files and just update the driver. you get all the functionability of proset, without an added proggie running

i was originally using the proset drivers and application, i noticed after i switched to the windows wifi manager that the wifi startsup faster as does the computer... the proset application loads over 6 different processes and takes up about 40mb of ram... not worth it since windows works just as well if not better. Just install the driver for intel proset and use windows wifi manager
