I am not gonna mess up my with this EA crap!

personally I think it's crap too. the only way the ads would be ok is if the generated money benifited the consumer. maybe free expansion packs or something. $50 per cd seems like it should be enough. public tv and radio get away with commercials because they are free. if i had to pay for radio I would expect no ads. and no checking cookies...period..other then the invasion of privacy the game rocks. it would have been better if they told you on the outside of the box instead of inside.

Got to love this pic, very funny.

Yeah it would have been nice to have the warning on the outside, rather than pre-ordering awaiting for the arrival of my 9700 and open it up and get "HA YOU SPENT 50 BUCKS ON SPYWARE!"

What if people start a boycott and start shooting the ads?

umm i was playing the day it came out i didn't have any of that. maybe it is somewhat server dependant so the servers can pay ea to use adds that they will use to pay for their server?

And EA will ban all CD keys and users that have it.

I'm most likely going to get the game anyway , my Clan has paid for 2 servers for a year . A 64 man Conquest , and a 48 man Titan so I don't want to miss out on the fun , but I don't like what EA has done one bit

One game that I play has in-game ads like that (http://www.anarchy-online.com). The difference is that the free accounts have to watch them, while the paid subscriptions can turn it off (they can still see the billboards though). It's kind of annoying because they play sound as well, so I never stand near a billboard.

Hopefully one can add a rule to a firewall to tell it to block any traffic to an advertisement server...I'd rather see a white blank than to have to see all that garbage.

People who pay for cable/satellite are paying to have access to more channels, such as local channels of other cities or nationwide channels. All shows are filmed with commercials in mind...C.S.I, Star Trek, etc will only be 50 minutes if the commercials are cut out...it'd be too wierd if the show times changed through the day (1st show at midnight, 2nd show at 00:50, third show at 01:40, etc. Even HBO has to throw in some tidbits between shows to bring the next show into sync with an hour.

Watch your head gets blasted because they show a girl in a bikini lol

Everyone that plays BF 2142 is a tool. You pay $50 so that EA can make money each time you look at ads. Now on the other hand, if BF 2142 was $10 then I could understand. The ads server isn't turned on yet. But if you try to block it your account will be ban.

I don't play BF 2141 because of EA tatics of how to make money. You want more maps, pay me. You want to play BF 2142 online not only do you have pay full premium price but also you are going to look at ads that pay me. You want an expansion pack, pay me.

Once EA turns on the ad server everytime you look at a ad EA makes money. Now I have no problem with EA making money but when it involves them saying "You want to play the game online you have to install spyware and make me money every time you look at ads in-game" that is when I draw a line on EA.

BF 2142 is nothing more then a mod.

Well, this is nothing new to EA. I play the need for speed series, and the ads have been in there for atleast the last 2 releases. It doesn't impact game play, so I don't understand what everyone's deal is. Also, when you go to the movies, they now show tv ad's before the movie, so everyone just needs to get used to it. These advertisements do, in a way, help the consumer. I'm sure those spots inside the game cost money to the company advertising. So, EA is making money from the advertisers. That money probably goes towards game development and things of that nature. It's just like an advertisement on TV, just ignore it. You really won't even know they are there after a while.

Well, I'm not the kind of person to sit back and let ads clutter up my entertainment experience. That's why God invented an adblocker extension for Firfox.

they'll boot you for ad blocking. plus I don't think the ads have anything to do with firefox or explorer. the ads are all in game. I don't think it reads your cookies or anything just your ip addy to see where your from so you don't get russian ads in kentuckinese. Every website does that. there is a deal in the game that can tell how long you stare at an ad to see if it's effective. I'm not a big fan of the ads either, though.

I know that, I was just using Firefox as an example. The preceding posts seemed a little too resigned. Just trust me when I say there WILL be functioning cracks to block those ads, and they WILL be popular, and if the crack becomes obsolete, then it will probably be updated very quickly. Also, I highly doubt EA would ban people for blocking in game ads. It would raise too big of a stink.
