Dell Precision M20 Possibly Overheating? Also Power Button & Lights Issue

Ok so while I have been playing in RF Online I have found that after over an hour the system just freezes. I am not sure if its video or CPU bu8t the main heat seems to be further down. Now I just took the system apart and blew it out and there was some dust but not a lot.

I am just not sure what to think. I ordered some Artic Silver 5 that I will be putting on to try and keep things cooler and I am going to look into any extra heatsinks I can attach but it seems odd that it would take so long.

Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe there was just enough dust to cause it because it did just start.

Also I have to push down on the board that handles the power switch, etc. To get it to show lights and power up. Its just annoying but I wanted to know if anyone else was having this problem.

Thanks!

Lower the CPU voltage

I have a Dell Precision M20 as well. It does get hot sometimes, but not so serious to make it freeze.

Artic silver might help a little, but the better option would be lower the CPU voltage. The Intel Dothan CPU requires less voltage for it to operate normally. Take mine for example, only 1.004v is sufficient for it to operate @ 1.73GHz. And the default voltage is 1.308v.

You can use either RightMark or NHC to adjust the voltage. Plus the Artic Silver, you should find the temperature of your M20 goes down effectively.

Good Idea I completely forgot to lower the voltage.

I will try that now while I wait for the AS5 to come in.

Time to refind that guide! Thanks again though I had completely forgot about that.

Ok so far I have it set at:
17x 1.148V Down from stock.

I am working on the 6x lvl so far it has passed the quick tests at 0.748V. I will keep testing unit I find the lowest and then adjust each lvl inbetween.

Now just resisting the OC urge for the ATI lol.

Well nhc went down to 0.700V which is the lowest and it passed the full stress test.

Lets see if it passes prime

Well it took me some stress testing bu things are better. I changed to Therma Grease but I am waiting on AS5 to max cooling but the Video card is def getting to hot mainly because where the fan's intake is my leg tends to cover up.

I fixed the power button 100% had it completely redone and now it works no problems what so ever. So after finding a better cooling setup it will be 100% now.
