found the new version is a lot harder to navigate, too much clutter.
switched back to old version.

Went back to the old look. Ahh.. Much better. I can take off my sunglasses now.

The color scheme is too bright for my preference too, but the bigger problem I have with it is the bubbled posts. Each message has so many borders and boxes around it that it seems like it overwhelms the messages themselves. The borders are also curved, which doesn't draw my eyes to the next post like the straight lines of the old style. Instead it breaks everything up, isolates each message, and basically makes it less pleasing to read.

But, that's just my opinion. As long as I can keep the old flavor, it really doesn't matter.

Changed back. Every time I clicked a link and the page changed it was like getting hit in the face with a BSOD while the page rendered. The sudden change from white to blue to white is horrible. While I could possibly live with the white (brightness turned right down of course) I can never live with the page transition as it is at the current time.

I personally think the new look is too bright and pages seem to take way longer to load compared to the old theme.

The bright white look is "in" now a-days, get with the times people . I went back to the old style also.. yeah the colors were too bright, but also the text size was waayyy too small for my 96dpi, and I know I could change it but clicking the old button was so much easier.

My eyes were burning

I guess I've always just liked the look of the forum previous to the changes, so I haven't really wanted anything to change on the forum, anyway at least I could just quickly change back

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Please feel free to use whatever version you are most comfortable with. We fully expect our core members to appreciate the standard forum style and that's why we plan to always offer a standard style. We really want to hear your feedback (constructive, of course) and we act on anything that makes a positive impact on the site. So make sure to speak up (everyone!) so we can hear you!

Oh, and we only use laptops here, too. Are there other kinds of computers? Since when?

The new look looks good and the features are getting better. Of course at first shock it was omg omg omg, it CHANGED! But change is good. I like the Notebook Discussions link at the top so now I can go to my favorite sections without a lot of scrolling. Keep up the good work.

The new look is great i think.. i find it actually loads faster on my crappy connection than on the old one and also find it easier to find i need quickly... Nice one

Well, I tried the new one out for a while, seeing if I'd get used to it. Definitely too bright and too much clutter for me. I went back to the old look, but at least there are options so everyone can be happy!!

another issue is how to get to the new look after setting the old one....

Ummmm.... well, I though that you could get back the way we did when testing, but I guess not... Let me check on this. Okay, I see. You have to be on the HOMEPAGE of the old style, then choose "REVIEW STYLE" from the drop down in the lower right corner of the screen. It won't work if you aren't on the homepage.

While I may not agree with the new forum layout Laura, I'll defend to the death you're right to create it...
I commend your ability to take criticism and the way you're on top of new issues...

The text is too small. I have a 1900x1200 resolution screen. I use firefox, and I usually "CRTL +" the text twice. With the next style, it's still too small! I can't instantly differentiate which sections are ads and which ones are content. Thanks for letting us use the old format, because the new requires so much tweaking its rather surprising.

I'm sensing some Voltaire right there , sorry just reminded me of what my global teacher is talking about in class these days

While I aggree that using firefox the text is quite small, I think it's not to bad.

Mind you I know when I first went to this site this morn I thought I had the wrong web address and thought "what the hell".

I consider this just like Vista, tis nothing but a change that needs some time to get used to!!!!

I've been off and on throughout the day. What has stuck with me is this:

1) I like the look. It looks clean and modern. But,
2) I don't like the color scheme used or the layout of each message.
3) For some reason, having grey as the background of the message text seems to be fooling my brain. I am drawn to peoples signatures instead of their message text. The grey/message area seems more like a quote instead of the actual message.
4) For some other reason, right now, whenever screens change (next page, previous, etc). it draw the blue screen with the grey bar at the top, NO TEXT, and SITS THERE, for ALMOST A MINUTE before the screen fully loads with the text. What is up with that? I thought it might be my IE7, but I tried it on my server with IE6 and it does the same thing.
5) Too much wasted space on the screen. It's all empty space now. I have a big 30" LCD, 2560x1600, and I can only see EIGHT (8) message on a screen (and they are only 1-3 lines each!!), without having to go to the next screen (and WAITING ANOTHER MINUTE for the screen to redraw!)
6) Too much wasted space on the screen. (oh wait...I already said that!!).

I'll hang in there another day or so with the new look, but probably won't keep it.

I think the pages are really a lot of HTML to download; for instance, there is full CSS styles rendered in every page. If you made a seperate CSS page and "linked" it in the header of each page, people's browsers would cache your CSS and it would save 10+K per page IMO.

If you do a view source, a lot of the HTML is rendered for adverts, though I understand that, there are probably ways to get this done without dragging down everyone's sessions. Thanks!
