Area-51 5750 BIOS Update

Has anyone updated their 5750 BIOS to the one shown on the Alienware site (ver 1.15w). I just got my 5750 last week and it has ver 1.11 bios on it????? I am curious because ver 1.15w is an update to support Core 2 Duo. Don't understand why they would send me a machine without the latest BIOS - especially since I have Core 2 Duo and the update was released in August!

If you have a core 2 duo and it works, the 1.11 bios must support the core 2 duo also...

It's likely the bios was certified by AW after your system was in the process of being built. If you want to update your bios, you need to call support first to make sure if you have any issues you won't void your warranty by flashing the bios on your own.

Unless there is a specific fix listed in the new bios that applies to your uses, there's really no reason to update it.

This is what caught my eye from the Alienware update page for BIOS ver 1.15w-

Features and fixes in this BIOS release:
  • Adds support for the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processors
  • Fixes random exclamation mark on WLAN after USB thumb drive removal
Bit confusing, huh? What support? Certainly not processor recognition - BIOS 1.11 does that.
Since I have 1.11 and they list 1.15w, I have no idea what features/fixes have been added in past BIOS updates. I guess I will flash only if I discover something amiss, since flashing w/o Alienware permission is serious business. However, a release history of past BIOS updates would be nice to review so that I can avoid future issues.

I had some random shutdowns with the 1.11 bios on my system while the machine was on the battery. It worked fine with it plugged in (which is 95% of the time). About a month with the updated bios I have yet to have a random shutdown.

correct the BIOS 1.15 also fixes that ramdom shutdown issue, its weird that you have BIOS 1.11 and a core 2 duo CPU cuz it shouldnt work :P ill recomend you to go ahead and call TS let them know about this and get their assitance to update your BIOS
