Love the new Site

Well the title speaks for itself. I really like the new layout and the brighter colors...

I just wish they had a dark template version of the new site. All these bright colours are starting to give me a bit of a headache. I'll have to use the old one in the meantime.

yea i'm getting a headache too... i'm missing the old layout already..

Eh, I am not a fan. It looks terrible in Firefox, at least at my high resolution.

I'm stickin' w/ the old layout. The bright white/yellow kills my eyes (and my sensibilities- what little o' them I've got).

Thanks for the feedback, guys!

I would love to hear specific ideas you have.

@Tegan - what's your resolution? What issues are you having?

@Verrin - stay tuned - we will make sure that there is an option for people who prefer a non-white background.

This isn't a situation where we decided what's good, and too bad for those who don't like it. We REALLY want to know what issues people are having (and what people like) so we can address things that would benefit the board. Your feedback is really important, so thank you!!

The white's just too much. ATM, I'm using a 19" LCD and if I get a big screenful o' white, it's too much. Guess I could turn the brightness down on the LCD, but I don't really recall having any issues w/ any other sites.

For sure this is on the list of things to address. Clearly white is not good for a lot of peoples' screens.

More to come...

I like the old site too. Its easier to click to where you want to go. I think taking away from the simple-ness of the site just makes the new one counter produtive.

Well, it's not hard to get used to. Plus, I love the pull down menus at the top of the page; they make it a lot easier to get to the sections of the forum I frequent the most. It's annoying in the old site where I have to scroll down and take a few moments to find the sections I'm interested in, where they're just a click away in the new site.

I'm also using Firefox, and I find the all much-more white pages difficult to read. I personally liked the somber colors of the other site. Is there a posibility to enable color-schemes using our profiles ?

Thanks for adding to the discussion, guys!

ebus5 - you can go back to the old site using the link in the upper right corner of the screen, but as of now, there are no different themes for the new style.

Same res here... they seem good to me, but then I prefer smaller stuff so I get more on the screen.

Size issues are currently being addressed! Keep coming with more feedback!

I thought I'd add some input too. I had to revert to the old version, unfortunately. It was just too hard to read the text. I think the issue is that the font is really small making the new graphics the focus. The text really need to be the focus or else reading posts becomes very laboring.

I also think that it's too difficult to find the forum index from the main page. That should be immediately accessible.

If you'd like some further ideas check out: http://www.ubuntuforums.org
As far as features and layout goes, nothing, imo, comes close to ubuntu forums.

That looks pretty darn slick. Been meaning to install Ubuntu for ages. Maybe if I hang around there, it'll actually give me the kick in the butt that I need to do it. Very nice, clean site. It is a white bkgd, however. Would prefer something else, but w/ the text being reddish, it doesn't seem too bad.

My site critique. Sorry if I offend you but this site offends me.

If notebookforums looked like that five years ago I would never have brought anything from PCTorque/Sager.

The color scheme or lack of color scheme is visual disaster. The site visually confusing, it makes my eyes bleed and everything hard to read. I like the idea of using bold colors to enhance the site but its not working the current form.

From colormatters.com
"In visual experiences, harmony is something that is pleasing to the eye. It engages the viewer and it creates an inner sense of order, a balance in the visual experience. When something is not harmonious, it's either boring or chaotic. At one extreme is a visual experience that is so bland that the viewer is not engaged. The human brain will reject under-stimulating information. At the other extreme is a visual experience that is so overdone, so chaotic that the viewer can't stand to look at it. The human brain rejects what it can not organize, what it can not understand. The visual task requires that we present a logical structure. Color harmony delivers visual interest and a sense of order."

The site looks very amatuerish. When you look at the top of the page.. Grey, White, Yellow, Blue, and Orange doesn't gel together. Why are some corners round and others are not? The grey clashes with the light blue and the white background next to it makes it even uglier. The pumpkin orange "Go" buttons/text look terrible in front of a sky blue backdrop.

I HATE the notebook forum "logo". Is THAT really the best thing you could come up with? The old one is 100% better, its so good you should copy it. Make a picture or logo large enough to strech the length of the page and put some text in front of that.

Yelley? This site Yells NO! I know NotebookForums can do much better than this.

Thanks for the feedback. Stay tuned - changes are already in the works!

While I think sonar needs to tone down his critique, I think he's essentially stated the facts (IMO). I'd definitely recommend taking a few notes from the Ubuntu forums linked above. Very nicely done.

Hmmm... okay... I have been studying the Ubuntu forums here for a bit... Honestly, I am not really sure what parts people are enjoying. Could you give me some details? For me, it's hard to read... I am not clear on what exactly I am missing.
