16.1 price increase

Thread Starter
I talked with the people at Alienware - the reason the price has gone up was given as the following: Market fluctuations and an increase in manufacturing costs due to the use of an improved screen.

That last part caught my eye... improved screen...

So, I placed my order... a 16.1, 3.4ghz, cyborg green...

cough "bs" cough....market problem sure but improved screen I highly doubt...sales reps at AW say almost anything...they assured me and others are systems have dual-channel RAM because the web site stated as such...well we all know the fallout from that...amazes me what reps say...wouldn't you think if the 16.1" screen was some amazing improved screen that they would be advertising it all over the place in bold on their website? That way the price increase could seem more justified...

I highly doubt it...until there is concrete proof there is no way I buy into this...first off, the LCD industry has always been short of 16.1" screens and AW is not big enough to have new custom LCD's built with some dramatic improvement in refresh rates...once again I think this is just wishful thinking by many...do you not think there would be some mention of a new 16.1" on their site and that it wouldn't be in limited supply if they have a whole new line of 16.1" screens...

I'd be willing to bet people who require them to be repaired/replaced will have a harder time as well.

Well... I'm just really happy about the colors.... Silver is NOT my color.... It's too.... Generic.

If you go on Uniwill's site (the OEM) they show a 16" screen option for SXGA with a 1400X1050 resolution. Maybe AW is using these.....
No. The resolutions of the Alienware screens are 1600x1200 for the 16.1", and 1680x1050 for the 15.4" widescreen.
A lower res would really stink.... ecspecially since they're charging more for it!
There is no lower res...it's the same old 16.1" that they had before...which I guarantee the majority of owners did not complain of...everyone should remember that the majority of AW owners are not on these messageboards...usually it is people who have questions and problems...
