GOD no the BIOS won't work - for all their similarities, the 7950 and 7900s are different chips.

They are both G71 so what are you talking about?

120 views and no opinion hehe. Anyone willing to try it?

If I didn't have a 6800u I'd most likely sacrifice my card...

I'm curious myself.

But hell if I'm gonna try it!!

you can make an autoexec'ing boot cd to blind flash back ...that is, assuming the flash doesn't completely fubar the card...

Well I went ahead and tried it and no matter what switches I use it just reboots the computer. Running it without the switches gives the GPU mismatch.

This is incorrect; they are exactly the same other than the Clocks.

Why use 7950's BIO?? Basically the 7950 runs at default speed of 595/700 which you can easy run that speed with 7900GTX. The reason 7950GTX reach higher memory speed because it uses faster memory chip. About the core run higher speed might due to new stepping GPU or higher vcore. The default vcore for 7900GTX is 1.24v and 7950GTX is 1.32v.

Personally, I'm just bored...I'm not looking for practicality out of this at all...

Huh?? First, do you mean 7900GTX, not GS?? Second, what do you mean no restart?? You locked up the card, and now your computer won't boot, or it worked and didn't restart during it like the other poster had mentioned??

Or is this just a joke post??

This is for sure core wise the 7900GTX & 7950GTX is exactly the same. I have heard that the memory they use is 3ns, but i think the real diidreence is in the memory timing itself. Since the day i bought and put in my 7900GTX in my laptop I flashed it to 625\750 and have never had a problem. infact I'll run coolbits to determine it's best clock results and it acctually gives me 635\765 so it seems i have more room to overclock, I'm wondering if there is a way to use the 7950GTX bios to flash the 7900GTX using switches, to trick it in thinking it a real 7950GTX, i also have tried rasinf the volts to 1.32 and didnt make a difference, but thats with the 7900GTX bios, in theory it seems it may be done. I cant find a thread if someone has tried it

Which switches did you use snooz?
I didnt use any switches I am assuming it could be possible, because I did flash my vanilia 7800 using -4-5-6 switches to flash it to a 7800GTX so i thought maybe it would wook the same way.

A guy PM'd that he had done it and it did not work. All he got was a blank screen. Last I heard he was blind flashing so I assume he got his card working again.

I wouldn't do it guys unless you really know what you are doing.

I read that too, but if i wasent mistaked he was trying to flash a 7900GS witha 7950GTX bios, I'm trying to tweak up a 7900GTX, I have rebuilt 4 e1705\9400 and Im in the process paperwork for becoming a certified dell tech and reseller. I have flashed and overclocked a 7800,7800GTX,7900GS, and 7900GTX and changed almost every part in those laptops. The most fun was cutting the left keyboard screw mount of the motherboard so i can get the 7800GTX to fit in a 9400 because the it didnt line up because of that mount.

Ah, I keep seeing different things...Pull out your compass NightRaver, here's your chance to be a pioneer man...use the force flash switches, sounds like you're up for blind flashing goes wrong...I just want some closure here...
