Alienware customer support nightmare.. will never buy another alienware again!

I have never been more frustrated with any other company in my life. I used to have so much respect for Alienware.. now i've decided I will never do business with them again.

I purchased a new sentia and after a few months, the screen began to flicker and it was randomly crashing, freezing, and rebooting itself. Even browsing became unbearable because i could barely scroll without the screen getting all choppy. No matter what i tried, (formatting, swapping the ram sticks, etc..) nothing helped. About a month later, the hard drive started crunching as if it was going to die as well. I called tech support and basically let them know my system was a total mess and let them know exactly what was happening. After they made me spend hours doing their silly tests, they told me i should send it back to be repaired which i did.

Now at this point I should expect my laptop to be returned with no problems right?? WRONG!

I got the laptop back (after a very long time) and all they did was replace the hard drive according to the sheet of paper they sent back with my laptop. The screen was still flickering, browsing was almost impossible, and it was still crashing and rebooting. In addition to all these problems, my laptop now had a CRACK in the right front corner and was covered in black fingerprints. I called back furious and told them that their lousy tech didn't fix a damn thing and not only did they physically damage my laptop, but the problems still remained. Once again i was asked to perform all their silly tests before i could send the laptop back at my expense. I reluctantly sent it back after placing a note under the laptop lid that said "do not just replace the hard drive this time.. laptop has many other problems including screen flickering and crashing"

About a month later i got my sentia back and to my disbelief, i saw that all the did was replace the hard drive once again even after i put a note under the lid before i shut it that told them not to do that!

Alienware's customer service is absolutely terrible and I would never recommend that anyone do business with alienware again. They have wasted months of my time and my laptop is now a $3000 brick. Im not even going to bother sending it back a 3rd time just so they can replace the hard drive again even though that has nothing to do with the problem. Now all i want to do is take it upstairs and throw it off my balcony. Now instead of being impressed whenever alienware releases a new ALX or sentia, etc.. i only feel sick because i know people are still doing business with alienware and will one day have to experience their tech support from hell.

Contact AW-Steve, he's helped out a bunch

As frustrated as you are, don't give up. You shouldn't have to deal with a computer that is not working. I assume you are still in the warranty period...so can't understand why you should have to pay for shipping.

If you do decide to try to get it repaired again, definitely try to get a supervisor to talk to you about your issues before you send it in again - yes, it's a pain, but it isn't right for you to have a non-working system. Definitely PM or email Alienware-Steve, as Tate suggested. It may take a few days for him to get back to you, but sounds like you definitely need better support from Alienware than you've received so far.

A+ rant/story

My two cents - check my thread and you'll se that things like that happen. I wasted so much time and nerves... The only advice is not to give up calling them and escalate it to the right person.

My case was really "a drama" cause of my time constraints - I now outside the States so hassling with CS and Shipping would be almost impossible for me if I wouldn't receive it on time.

I received (so far, more or less) functioning system 1 day before my flight so I was quite lucky in a sence. Originally I had 3 issues with brand new lappy (bad mobo, grumbling heatsink fan,few dead pixels on screen). They fixed only mobo even thought I clearly stated what needs to be fixed!!! As for the two other issues I am still in touch to my dedicated person in CIT (critical issues team) and waiting for what he suggests to do with them...

As I said before I am quite limited because of my current location (Europe) so I expect to have the things sorted in longer period of time.

Just remark - buy Dell or HP if you don't care about Power/Looks. If you do AW is the best choice however you have to accept the risk of not having things sorted out in short amount of time...

Yeah... and I survived my waiting time only because great support and help of people in this forum!!! THANX to all!!!

Well, thanks to AW-Steve, i was contacted by someone from Alienware and they're doing an express repair.. so I hope it goes better than the first few times i sent in my laptop and i get it back with everything fixed. There's so many problems with my laptop though that it seems like everything inside needs to be replaced. I have a feeling the motherboard is damaging the rest of the components over time.

We will see how it goes when i get it back in a few weeks.

I hate reading these kinds of complaints as it is very frustrating to get your system back after repairs and not have the issues resolved. It's especially frustrating to have damage and dirt on it as well...

I hope they get you squared away this time. I've personally had good experiences with their support and depot with the exception of one repair where the machine was returned in a different than standard box and wasn't as clean as it should be, but AW has always come through in the end...

If you're under warranty, don't give up, but change the way you think about it. Letting them off the hook without adequate repairs damages you more than them, so keep on them until you get what you paid for.

I would agree that I also hate this, I am in the same situation right now...
Heres the lowdown (BTW, I have been loyal AW customer for a year.)

1) Missing screws for pannels - 5 months to recieve wrong screws, 2 months gone by, still no screws...
2) Dead GPU - Was told 2 days in depot for RMA, took 7.
3) RMA'd GPU - Missing 3/6 Heatpads when recieved
4) RMA'd GPU - Stupid amount of thermal paste on GPU Dye (Over a HALF-Dollar size, touching the board.)
5) Ordered Missing Heatpads - Was told 7 business days for delivery, has been over 3 weeks, still not recieved.
6) Ordered Thermal Paste - Was told 7 business days for delivery, has yet to arrive, been over 3 weeks.
7) Was told I could not upgrade GPU or Motherboard - I posted on NBF my issue and was contacted by Critical Issues Team Member with "Yes, these are avaliable" - Too many problems to adress to get an upgrade right now...

I love my m7700, but I HATE THE PISS POOR SERVICE OF THE MANY.
There are SOME people at AW that DO CARE, and those are the poeple that get things done!

I will NEVER buy another alienware, but I will not sit here and "flame" out of line because I am angry. All this above is just to heed a warning to others on what to expect.

I never worried about this kind of situation until it happened to me!

Face it, it doesnt matter what company u purchase from, tech support peeps all read from screens and know jack about computers, its a roll of the dice when u purchase a 1K$+ computer that u get a perfect one w/o issues. If u are once of the unfortunate few that has problems, tech support of ANY company is going to be woefully inadequate and its even longer odds that you will have a good tech support experience. I thought this was just w/ the big companies with huge call centers and outsourced ones too. But after reading the reviews of top of the line systems (5K$+) by [H]ard|OCP from the most respected boutiques in the biz like voodoo and falconNW among others, even those companies have serious tech support issues. So in the end it doesnt matter WHO u buy from, if u get a dud its all down hill from there!!!

I have come to the conclusion that:
With the horrible tech support and depot service everyone has.....
Its best to return the computer for a refund and order a Brand new one even same model same company and hope u dont get a dud the 2nd time around and thats still quicker than deport service when the do stuff right the first time!

I got an email today saying that they replaced the wifi card, battery, and "panel c". Im not sure what the "panel c" is but im assuming theyre talking about the monitor since it was flickering really bad and non stop. Im really worried now though because they made no mention of the motherboard being replaced, even though i was stressing that i strongly believed it was going bad and causing my other hardware to fail (two batteries die instantly, bad wifi card, bad hard drive, bad monitor). I wish the motherboard would have been replaced but i suppose now ill just have to see how it goes. I trust that they actually tested my laptop in a real life situation now and didn't just run those tests that can't find the real problems. Ill let you guys know what happens.

arnt you supposed to remove your HD when you send them your laptop?

They've never asked me to remove it any of the times i had to send it back.
Maybe its just I that remove it... its always common when you send your laptop in for repairs that they do a full system restore which involves reformatting your hard drive...

Well.. i got my laptop today and the situation has not improved at all.. this time they replaced the screen with another bad screen which is so dark that i can hardly see the outline of the words while it's posting. I can't even think of what to say at this point. Does alienware hire computer technicians off the streets or something? Here's the email i just sent them:
Quote:
Hi, I got my laptop today and turned it on. The screen has been replaced but it is still bad. It's so dark that i can barely see the words scrolling down the screen during post, and i can't see anything once it boots into windows. Did they not even make sure that the new screen they put on actually worked before they sent it to me? I can't even test to make sure they fixed any of the other problems since now i can't even see anything on the screen. How much more time and money will i need to spend on boxes sending this brick back to you before i can actually use it? I am extremely disappointed and pretty much speechless at this point.. I assume you're going to ask me to send this back to you once again.. let me know when you send me a new label. This is really tedious. I suggest that you fire your technicians until you can find ones that can do their jobs properly. Thanks
I think the saddest part of this is that i didn't even expect it to work right when i got it.. i guess i was right.

That is so freakin ignorant of the AW workers....

Thats not the first time I have heard of systems comming back with problems not fixed.

BTW: I'm still waiting for my thermal pads and screws.
Sue!!! All problems get fixed real quick when lawsuits are enacted (not threatened) actually filed!!!

I can see the headlines now:

"tridge sues for Screws!!!"...just don't seem rite somehow?!?

Judge Judy I tells ya'!
