The New Guy :)

Hello everyone!

Just got my Alienware Sentia today and am loving it!

A little background if you're interested:

I design playgrounds for a living, it's a fun and rewarding job. Main use for this notebook is internet surfing, and working on parametric modeling programs along with AutoCAD. I've noticed many posts on this forum regarding the video card in this rig, for gaming I assume. Well, I should hopefully be able to provide some feedback on how this system handles 3D models of rather large playground structures, along with rendering speed once I begin firing up CAD.

I can make an attempt to answer questions people might have when more knowledgable people aren't around. Until then, take care!

that sounds like quite the interesting and fun job!

lemme know how that card works with autocad, if you dont mind, i am quite curious. I do a ton of autocad on my gateway and she hasnt given me any problems, but then again i have the 9600 in there.

Sounds like a cool job. An AW machine would fit the part too!

Well, after a few more hours, I have to say, this is the worst touchpad I've ever had to deal with.

What's wrong with it? Is it the same issues that others here are having? It's not the sort of thing I want to hear as I wait for mine!

The touchpad is sensitive to a certain movement which disables it for some reason. Another Sentia user posted updated drivers which resolved this issue.

its hard to find but there is a configuration panel that allows you to tweak about a million things beyond the normal XP control panel for mice and pointing devices. I found that the new drivers and going thru ALL the settings made a big difference

I found smurf's post regarding the updated updated drivers. Not too long after installing, I did have a lock of the touchpad. I then went into the configuration tool for the touchpad (the icon in the systry after installing the drivers) and disabled some of the features, like touchpad clicking. That was part of the problem, but the the mouse still randomly leaps across the screen. I think I was accidentally engaging the click feature while using the touchpad, so I'm hoping when I disabled that I won't have those random "LETS CLICK ON THIS!" moments.

Arch: If you find where those settings are, let me know? I've gone into and modified every setting I could find. I'd like to just completely disable the touchpad bonus features, which I think I may have done through the settings menus.

All that aside, I'm a happy alienware owner!

If u want to do all that, just delete driver and softwafre, windows will recognize pad a a ps2 mouse w/ no extra options.

I think I spoke too soon. I didn't really mean disable every function (right now anyway). I was just wanting to find a larger selection of options to disable/enable to see if I can increase the performance of this touchpad for my style of use. I really think that it's mostly a user issue, but I could be wrong (wouldn't be the first time).

epiphany-

have you tried it with AutoCad yet??

isn't the Sentia's intergrated graphic card going to be a lag for autocad or any rendering software. Also, any photoshop usage?

In the 48 hours I had the notebook, AutoCAD and Inventor worked without a hitch. Don't use photoshop, just PSP, and it did what I needed it to do.
