i'm using the windows media maker (or whatever its called) to see if it works or not.

I've gone through all the audio options and made sure that the microphone was not muted..

If the Mic. isn't muted, you can hear yourself through the speakers 24/7 . Make it muted, then go to start/ap/accesories/entertainment/sound recorder. Then, see if it works!

thanks mario your right! it is working now...except i have to almost scream for the microphone to pick up my voice..any way to make it more sensitive?

there is a "boost" option somewhere. should make it more sensitive.

Simple, jack up the volume in the volume controls. That SHOULD fix it. I'm not totally sure, I have an external mic on my desktop.

In the mic options there should be a option called 'mic boost' or something like that. That should help with your problem.

When recording the level and boost comes from the Recording pane of the volume controls rather than the Play back pane. Change to the Recording pane first then modify the levels.
