MacBook Speakers

Well, as we all know, the macbook speakers suck. I was wondering if it is possible/if anyone has replaced the speakers with something more powerful/louder/better. If not, does anyone know if there are any good aftermarket notebook speakers available? I am completely willing to be a guinea pig. Thanks.

Sorry, I actually haven't. BUT wouldn't it be possible to just have "better" speakers using better materials or some shit? I don't know much about speakers as far as what makes one better than the other for example: a 6.5 in. stock car speaker vs. 6.5 in. kicker speaker. I don't know, it was just a thing that popped in my head today.

sure anything is possible. but remember, this is a 13" laptop, the speakers arent gonna be "bose qual."!

you cant compare these to 6.5"s there just no way. 6.5" are standard sizes, these things are so tiny, and an OEM product at that.

good luck on your venture, i have a big feeling you wont get too far though

Well then just to end this fairly quick...

The MacBook probably uses electrostatic speakers. You aint gettin very good sound out of those, nor will you out of any laptop speaker for several reasons, not the least of which is due to the fact as they aren't located in a sealed enclosure you are getting sounds 180 degees out of phase with the current sound off the back of the speaker. Laptop manufacturers depend on the computer enclosure blocking a lot of this sound, but you wont ever get an airtight enclosure in the laptop.

Not only that, but you also would need to match the speaker to the amps for good results, which is difficult when I have no clue what the amp is for speakers in the macbook, and haven't seen it listed.

And of course there is the issue of good speakers producing heat. All of these things are much easier to deal with in a car stereo, or other stereo system than they would be in a laptop.

Hi Alex, 10-26-06

I'm using what you need. Klipsch ProMedia Ulta 2.0 speakers. Retail $95, on sale $90, or less. U won't be disappointed. Available in Silver or Black. & if U happen to have an iPod, they can be used with that, too.

I've used Klipsch speakers in my main stereo sytems for years (the components change, but not the speakers). They produce the best sound available.

Check them out-
