Inspiron 9100 Status??

I was just wondering what the status was on anyone who has ordered a 9100. I have been "stuck" in the production phase since 3/3. It hasn't completed "kitting" yet.

Anyone having any better luck? Seems people were getting their XPS systems a lot quicker than their initial ETA's. I was hoping for the same thing with my 9100! Currently Est. ship date of 3/18, which hasn't changed since I ordered it.

I must be a few units behind you, ordered mine on 3/7 and should be here on the 22nd. Mine is in production, not even in kitting yet.

If by "picture" you mean the web site, it should change during each stage. I ordered an 8600 and once it hit production, it went through the stages in about two - three days. I kept checking constantly. It hung out in Boxing for about three days, which I thought was odd. I imagined some guy closing "one box flap" per day!

I wonder if they are waiting on some parts as it hasn't completed kitting yet. Getting impatient

Sure hope they get the problems ironed out before is goes into production. Meaning the video/heat/lockup or whatever the XPS systems are experiencing...

Still showing "In Production" same status for 7 days now!

I ordered mine on Saturday the 6th of March, and i'm already in the testing stage!!! On the web page, It says that i'm still in preproduction? You guys should try calling 800-915-3355 (the sales #) and follow the prompts. I think the order is #2, #1, then #1. They'll give you the option to use "speech" to submit your order number, don't bother it never works. You can manually type in your number instead. I don't think they update their web page as often as the should be. Hope this helps someone out. It says mine shoud ship by the 18th.

I just called that number and it said I'm in the "Build" stage. You are right, they don't update their website, gee, and why did I bookmark that crappy page?

Same here... placed the order on the 8th. Web site shows production, but not into kitting. Shipping estimate is the 23rd.

Called the number above, current status shows in Build stage, but shipping estimate is still the 23rd.

Wow, you are getting yours fast, I ordered on the 24th, and it's taken me all this time to get to the same stage you are

Cool, I am going to try that number right now. I called Dell a little while ago and she basically said that the website is probably not up to date and I am probably further than it says. She said she would "send a message" to someone to see if it can get updated.

Hope they do udate it for all of us! I told her we all probably check that site several times a day and they should try to update it in a more timely manner. It would save us from having to call them!

Well I just found out I am in the Build stage too! Thanks msdillie1 for that phone number!
Order placed 3/3 ETS 3/18

Well I had an order that I placed on the 6th of March, but that got mysteriously cancelled yesterday. It was in the build stage once I got the confirmation and never moved from there. I had the order replaced today, and it also is in the build stage but now the ship date isn't until April 8th . I guess i'll have to hope they ship them early like they did for the XPS's.

I can't believe how quick yours flew through the whole process...
When you get it, let us know if it has the "lockup" problem!

In the "Build" stage for three days now according to the phone report.

Not even in "Kitting" on the web...

*sigh*

Called Dell again to try to get the real scoop. They are clueless. The first lady tells me, "well your credit card charge has gone through and its in production - like I needed to know that. I said " I knew that before I called you, I want to know why it has been stuck in production for 10 days - is there a parts issue or are they trying to resolve the XPS/9100 lock up problems.?" I let her know I know of many people who were having issues.
Then she tried to tell me there were probably parts on back order, but she was unable to find out which ones and I would have to talk to someone in sales. I asked why I would talk to them if I have already placed and order? I also said "well logically, if the system is past kitting, it should have all the parts it needs. Why would the send an order to the production floor if it did not have all the parts"? Unless the Stages on the Dell site are just a crock.

I called back later to the sales dept. Her take on it was.. well everything looks fine and it should be shipping on the 18th. I told her I can read the website (which is grossly out of date) and I know it does not take that long to actually "build" a system, assuming all parts are there or there are no problems. I said "look, I just want to know the real story - if its going to be late then tell me - don't make me wait until the 18th to find out that it didn't ship and then call and get even angrier!" Can anyone tell me what the problem is? She keeps insisting it is fine and should ship on time. YEAH RIGHT. Oh then she tried the "well those new systems take 10 days to build...like the XPS and 8600 etc." I told her I had two 8600's. It 12 days t get the first one and the second one (an exchange unit cause the bad video card) took 1 week from order till it hit my doorstep!. The make of the laptop doesn't make the build process any slower or longer!

Well it seems that they don't (or can't) find out the real problem and don't want to look into it until you actually pass your ship date. (Why am I not surprised). I guess they you have to let it be late FIRST, then they might actually find out whats up - or more likely give you ANOTHER reason why it didn't ship.. maybe just make something up..Uhhh we are waiting on more displays.. or something.

Well it thats the case, then I will really be angry. Just tell me the truth when I ask, or find out if you don't know the answer! Is that too much to ask?

I also have a 9100 on order and have been in the build stage for 10 days total now. I posted on the Dell community forums about my order status, and was told by Samantha that she "checked on the status of your order and the processor is currently on a 17 business day lead time." I have just asked her which processor is on lead, and I am awaiting an answer. My guess is that its the GPU. I suggest's that you all ask here for your status and she what your told. Here is a link to my inqury
and here is where to post you own order status questions.

One person on the inspiron general list posted this. Her order was supposed to ship today. I find the last part, HIGHLY doubtful.

"We have reviewed your order. Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner,

we are experiencing an unexpected delay and will not be able to ship this order and

any associated orders until 4/7/2004.

No action is required to proceed with the new date, however, if you do not wish to wait,

you may cancel your order and receive a prompt refund.

If you have any questions, please contact Dell at 800-289-3355, extension 66966 or

email us at us_dell_notify@dell.com.

Please include your order number or customer number with any correspondence.

We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause

I just talked to CS again and got some real answers... basically Dell doesnt have the computers, they are having a severe shortage as well as a few trucks carrying our computers were stolen... "

I'm on hold for the "manufacturing" dept to find out more details on what is causing the delay for my shipment, which was to be today. According to the first person it was due to the "battery" and my new estimated ship date was April 5th (another 2 weeks!)... I'll post here what I find out from the "manufacturing" department... fun fun!

Where was that posted on the Inspiron General board? I have been watching it, but have not seen a post like that...
