Inspiron 9100 Status?? - Page 6

DJedi - there is hope! I ordered mine on 3/13 and it started going through the production steps on Saturday. I had pretty much been checking it like 3 times a day, and when I went down in the morning I said a slight prayer before I scrolled on down - and what do you know - kitting. Took a shower and had lunch - building. Went to the stores for a few hours, came back - testing. Tested into late Sunday, and it's currently boxing. It seems most people ahead of me in line have received their's or at least moved on it. I would bet yours will be moving out real soon.

I hope so, I make all the computer purchasing decisions for my company here. In the past 16 months, We've done over $85,000 in purch. on Dell. 1 or 2 laptops/desktops a month atleast, which to them is not really alot of money. hah, and the first time in a while i'm getting myself a new laptop and the damn thing gets delayed... we'll see tommorrow. I'm going to email my rep for a tracking number if it actully ships, who 've been bugging for a while now

Imagine if this was the CEO's Laptop

It's worth the wait folks. I've had my i9100 for three days now, and I really like this thing. I had a few problems before I wiped the OS and reinstalled, but everything is cleared up now and I have no complaints worth mentioning.

I hightly recommend the 9100 for the casual gamer, student, or professional who demands a powerful notebook.

Thanks for the Quick review. It sounds like the 9100 is the perfect laptop for me - I'm a casual gamer and a student. As far as the status on my 9100 goes, I ordered it 3/19 and it is in testing as of Yesterday(sunday), it sounds like they are getting it together. I might actually get it before my ship date which was 4/20.

Spare a thought for us in the UK...

Some of you guys ordered the 9100 quite late, the 19th March for example, and are about to receive yours. We poor blighters in the UK ordered on the 2nd and have been told the 6th of MAY!!!

I'll have the patience of a saint after this!

I ordered on the 6th that got mysteriously canelled reordered on the 11th with a ship date of April, 8th, and as of today i'm still waiting to see some movement on the status page. I guess i'll be getting a pushed back ship date.

Not to rub it in anyone's face, but I am so excited to get my 9100. I got home from work today and from kitting stage yesterday, it is now in the boxing stage as of today. That means it is coming soon right. woohoo!!

I got it!

Damn, after getting home a bit early I find the note from the UPS guy that they made the first attempt. I call to have it held for pickup and they say come down any time after 6:30. I get there at 6:31 (literally) but they don't have it yet. An HOUR later they finally admit the UPS driver forgot to drop it off at the right facility and called to have him bring it to me there. Well an hour of waiting and I FINALLY got it!!

Typing on it now! Only disappointment is the Geil memory I ordered will not let it boot up! I power up and all three LED's flash one time and then the middle one flashes 9 more times and then powers off. I tried every combiniation and reseating etc.. but no go. Just in case anyone else was planning to order Geil, be wary... Well its not the end of the world, just have to return and get some Crucial or other.

Well I ran 3DMark03 with the Dell factory install and the measley 256mb RAM I ordered with. It scored 3354. That was the basic tests you get from the unregistered version you download for free. Will run more extensive test later. The only thing I did was delete a bunch of apps that came with the system and closed any unnecessary processes.

Not sure if that score is good or bad. Looking forward to what I get with the full version and the 1gig ram.

This is not really a review but real quick: No dead pixels WHOHOOO By default Dell has turned on the 120% DPI for the icons, so changed it back to 96 DPI to get the clearer picture. If you notice blurred text or web pictures, you should do the same. Things might be a bit smaller, especially with the WUXGA, but it will be sharp and clear.

Speakers sound very good. for a laptop. Had to turn up to max in the Control Panel/Multimedia/Speaker Volume area. Headphones sound awesome too. It will save on battery using them because it only took a fracton of the volume level to crank them up. I mean if I ran at 100% unplugged and maybe 20% on the headphones, which is very loud watching a movie or music.

Great Wifi signal. I just have a B router, but may consider upgrading to G now. Checking pcpitstop for speedtests I get 3.2mb down, dslreports.com I get 2.5 down on the Megapath test (it was in the "busy" status though) This was all wireless.

This sucker is THICK, but feels pretty solid. I was glad I had the "table legs" because I knocked over a drink and it ran down toward the laptop. Talk about MAD, but it was ok. Just the rubber feet got wet. I guess I was too excited!

Well off to play some more. I plan to use a USB drive instead of a floppy, for little stuff or for reformatting. I plan to blow away the XP home and put on XP Pro. I will download all the drivers and put them on the USB drive. Maybe install COD or something, but not expecting much with the 256mb ram. No big deal.

Well once I get the proper memory installed I will post an update on the 3DMark03 and others. Please let me know what you all get (when you get your systems - and how much memory you have - an if you use the Dell factory install). Heres to a speedy shipment of your systems (unlike mine!)

Edit 4/6: I installed COD and two mixed results... 1) I was surprised how well it ran! It loaded at a good speed and ran smooth! The only negative was a occasional studder and then it continued running smooth! I was playing with only 256mb RAM on a wireless connection and every so often, it would studder for a second. Maybe it was the wireless connection (will try wired) Maybe it was getting some data from the CD?? I assume it won't need to do that if I have more memory, but we shall see. Ordered a different brand and should get it tomorrow. Oh.. last bit.. after about 45 minutes of gameplay the system froze up on one of the "studders". Now I am not going to panic yet! I know others with Video card problems would hang up after only a few minutes, so I am holding my consern until I have the system configured properly.

I9100 -- P4 3.2ghz, 60G 7200rmp HD, 256MB DDR400 (will upgrade to 1gig), 15.4 WUXGA, 1300 b/g WiFi, CDRW/DVD Rom, Venice Blue Quick Snap cover (Ordered 3/3 - Rec. 4/5)

My status hasnt updated since i ordered the damn thing on 3/11 and it's suppose to ship on the 6th (tommorrow) says it's still in pre-production.
I ordered on the 5th and still dont have mine. It did finally move off preproduction about a week ago, and since then has shipped, although I didn't get a tracking number which is annoying. My original ship date was the 22nd and it got bumped to April 19th!! Luckly for me it shipped before that!

I was pretty annoyed but I couldn't cancel the order because it felt like such a good deal:
2.8GHz WUXGA
512MB RAM
DVD +R/RW
Radeon 9700 128MB
60GB 7200 Disk
No wirless though (I'll get that later)
for $1776 shipped (late )

Can't say it enough, the i9100 is an awesome machine. Even though my experiences with Dell customer services were downright horrible while my computer kept being delayed, I am very happy with my system.

I should note though, unless Dell shapes up its service, I will not be a returning customer. All the greatest hardware in the world cannot make up for the crap you have to wade through to get a straight answer.

I ordered mine on the 26th March and just received a brand new Inspiron 9100 today -- well I returned my Inspiron 8600 as it was giving me a ton of video problems even after replacing the card. Wasn't very impressed with their customer service, as only yesterday I had rang them and they said the order was still processing. But, I have to admit..this has changed my outlook, big time. Thumbs up!

Now to reformat and to test it extensively. All the way out from lil, New Zealand.

It's still stuck in boxing

I ordered my 9100 on March 9. It was suppose to ship on April the 6th. I was getting very excited when i saw that my laptop made it into the boxing stage. Now it is the 6th of April and i just received an email saying thier is a shipment delay. This laptop won't ship until the 13th of April . This is BS. Dell didn't even give me a reason. At the bottom of the email it stated that if i can't wait then i can cancel the order for a full refund. This shows how dell does not CARE ABOUT THIER CUSTOMERS.

I ordered my 9100 on 3/3 and got it yesterday 7/4. Its awesome. I played Deus Ex : IW on it for an hour and a half. There were no problems at all. Will this test suffice to check my gpu or should I do something more?
