Inspiron 9100 Status?? - Page 3

At least your order status page has bothered to been updated... mine still says my ship date is March 15th and my delivery date is March 16th... heheh... I've long since given up on the website as a means of keeping track of my order...

Hah, I was wondering about that Panther. I'm sure my status page won't be updated either, nor will the call in number anymore. Two words, "Dell Sucks", or at least their service does.

I'm getting very close to cancelling.

I have been searching on ways to expedite this one but due to the newness of the systems it is on long lead times. It appears it will not ship for another couple weeks which would put it to you the first week of April.

Let me know...

Have a super day!
Dell Rep

har har har
Anyways seeing that my work paid for this laptop, i really don't care. but I would be DIEING if this was my own $$$, i and would have canceled by now. Hopefully they will fix the problems they are having with the system by the time this ships.....

Can you send back a unit that has lockups ? Let's say everything but heavy 3D games works well..will they or even have they to accept it if I want to send it back ?

I am not talking about the 30-day return policy, I want to know if such lockups is an warranty issue or not.

The one thing I am sure about is that if I ever buy a Dell I gonna get complete care and just pour ALOT of coffee on it in case something isn't working well.

My XPS is a multi-tasking monster. Looks and works just like a beautiful coffee table with added features. You can put the coffee over the gpu to keep it warm. If it gets to hot you can move closer to the vent with the constant running 4400 rpm fans. Cools it right down. What people are yet too realize is that 5 minute shut down problem, is actually a feature, so as not to scald the coffee or set the house on fire. All good coffee warmers have them.

Now at night, it works really well as a footwarmer, big enough for both feet.

So my opinion is that if you spill coffee all over it, it should be covered under the standard warranty. Why would the maker of a decent coffee warmer not warrant it to coffee spills?

So here it is... my I9100 Not-Shipping Date. Do I call them and ask for another update, and get all worked up when they give me another, totally different answer? Or do I just try to concentrate on something else, and see if I get a "We are sorry to inform you... " email. What to do...

Maybe it's time to get together, don USPS uniforms and march into Dell's head office.

Ok, I broke down and called.
I spoke to Tim. I started with the whole story about how I had called on Monday and was told my order was fine etc… He started saying “well the new models do take longer to build”. I told him that I am not calling early, its supposed to ship TODAY and, knowing it won’t, I want to know the real ship date. I told him that is not true as the first XPS systems went through production pretty fast!....UNTIL they discovered a problem wth them and then apparently halted production. I explained about our “community” (being the forums) and many people have the same exact status – basically stuck in production right after placing the order.

I asked him does he, or anyone at Dell visit the forums? If you want to get in touch with the customer base, you might want to check it out regularly. He kind of laughed and agreed that they should do that. The other thing I stressed is that we are ALL looking for the real story here, and keep in mind, we will all be talking. Basically, don’t tell someone one reason for the delay and then someone else something totally different because we well find out! (Power to the people! – ok I didn’t say that part.)

I think he understood what I wanted, but he said at customer service they only hear bits and pieces of whats going on and they usually don’t start looking into things themselves (like the forums) until customers start calling them on issues. SO Call People!

Side note: in previous problem with an 8600 video card, I told customer support to go to this link…and gave them a thread to read. It outlined very nicely the problem without me having to rehash, word for word what I had found to be the problem with my system as well. It saved me a ton of troubleshooting phone time and basically they didn’t have me do any of the ‘non related – scripted’ thing they usually have you try.

Ok so basically he told me he would have to call production to let me know whats going on and would call me back. I didn’t actually get that, instead got a voice mail message – automated no less – saying the standard Dell message. “Hello, this is the Dell order notification team calling to update you..etc…We are sorry – experiencing unexpected delay…yada yada yada.. new ship date on or before 3/25/04.

Well I guess it could have been worse than one week… IF is ships this time!

Just got off the phone with Dell at 877-868-3355...my i9100 (ordered 3/3/04), which is suppose to ship today (Order Status pages said so for 3 weeks) HA Ha HA!
It will now ship on or before April 15, 2004........I was told that the reason was the LCD screens (ALL) were on backorder. No mention of any other problem....Nice enough fellow but why didn't they just make a blanket announcement to all who placed their orders in the last 30 days.

I may cancel but I really have waited to choose what I thought was a good decision.....are any of you cancelling and what machines are you going to chase down??

Also ordered my 9100 on mar3, just got off the phone with dell. The guy I spoke to said it is being picked up by carrier today and should arrive in 3-5. Hmm, we'll see.

That is strange....I must have been talking to a "Dude from Dell" in a parallel dimension.

Wow, maybe I placed my order on the 3rd a few hours before you and my order was one the the last few to get an LCD. Surprised your order is so far out there.

Ordered my XPS on 02/26, ship date was going to be today... Canceled my order last Thursday... Reordered the same order on Saturday, worried about the price increase and could keep my orginal price... Anyway, my ship date is now 04/05 (on or before)... Called my sales person, listened to his answering service, hung up sent him a detailed email with all my concerns his response:
"You dell product will ship on or before 04/05"
That was my response to about a page and a half email.... You gotta love their dedication...

I wonder if WUXGA makes the difference in the 3/3/04 9100 order?

I spoke to my guy in the "notifications" dept again today and he confirmed that some systems are starting to "trickle" out as they get good batteries in... he told me that's all my system is waiting on according to the manufacturing dept and that it "may" ship out tomorrow (WOOHOO)... but I'm not counting on it at this stage either... as I've said before, this guy seems very legit and is making the effort to find out what's going on...

I am calling that number tomorrow Panther. I will see what they say. Forgot to mention in my long winded message above I did ask about the "notifications" department. I said I hear they may have more accurate data.. can you contact them? He sort of brushed over it with no real inkling of what I was talking about. Thats about par for everyone I have spoken to though so far. We shall see what happens tomorrow.

radams01 - Be sure you try and ask for Jamie when you call in... everyone else that I've spoken to in that dept aren't very helpful.. but he seems to make the effort to find out what's going on... I talked to him yesterday and he won't be in until after 12 CST today...
