Has anyone has Dell MediaDirect 3.0. It has been newly released by Dell. What is the difference between versions 2.0 and 3.0. Are user's of MediaDirect versions 2.0 eligible for upgrade to MediaDirect 3.0.

I just saw the add on Dell USA Webiste regaarding Dell MediaDirect 3.0 on new notebooks.

How did you get 5 copies of it? It has only been out for about 2 weeks now (give or take). MD3 comes on a DVD not a CD, any chance that you are referring to DMX 3.1?

Uploading the 2.5GB ISO will be fun .

So what are the chances of getting a copy of this on a Bittorrent or something?

Bal, are you selling these?

BUMP...

Anyone get a copy of this DVD yet and can upload it to a file share?
Yes, I have been searching. Mine actually came with MediaDirect 3 preinstalled, I am from Canada and they refuse to ship me the reinstall cd for this software although it came with it!

I'd love a copy of this too if someone can upload someplace.

I just recently got a mediadirect disk from dell and it ended up being 2.0. At least it works again. Havent heard what the difference is yet though, they have been pretty hush on it. It appears to be a part of the "New M1710" package with the light fx, etc...

cheers,

I went for a clean install of Windows and now I want to add MediaDirect 3 back in, using the MD3 reinstall DVD that came with the notebook (a 6400/E1505). Using PartitionMagic, I resized the main partition so that there is 2 GB of unallocated space at the end of the drive. Unfortunately MD3 refuses to install and it seems that the only supported scenario is to do the MD3 hard drive prep before installing Windows. Which totally sucks. Anyone know how to get MD3 installed without blowing away the current Windows installation?

Actually I would rather not have MediaDirect at all (can't see the point of it when the notebook already runs MCE) but I don't want to be giving someone a notebook that comes up with "MD extended partition table erro" [sic] when the MediaDirect button is pressed. On my M1710, I removed MD, and the MediaDirect button now starts up Windows and goes into Media Center. I wish I could get this pesky 6400 to do the same thing. Is it possible?

BTW the screen on this 6400 is absolute crap.

use ghost to backup your o/s partition then format with the m/d 3 dvd then restore os partition reboot run media direct 3 in xp every things back as it should be

Thanks... actually I did consider that option but in the end I did a low level disk erase with the Hitachi DFT utility and reinstalled Windows from scratch. Thankfully the "MD extended partition table erro" message is finally gone. The MediaDirect button now starts up Windows and launches Media Center (this last bit seems to be done via QuickSet).

Somehow the MD3 bootloader had even survived DFT's "Erase Boot Sector" command. Pure evil!
