Lap top charging problem, battery or not?

Gents,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A30, about 3 years old now. I have problems with the recharging but not convinced if it is a battery problem. If I am using my lap top on battery alone, and then plug in my lead to the mains, it will not recharge. I just get a battery light come on and off at intervals.. However, if I turn it off, then plug in the lead it recharges to its full capacity whether I turn the computer on or leave it off, and then I can use my computer on battery for around 2 hours(normal batt life for me)

This is where it becomes spooky. I may be using my lap top with the mains plugged in and the battery fully charged when all of a sudden the battery light goes out, the mains light remains on and the battery discharges over its normal course until the computer is out of power. I then have to unplug my lead (with the computer off) replug it in and everything is back to normal recharging again. Also the computer works fine without the battery in.

I have tried to explain it as simple as I can, and i welcome any suggestions, thanks in advance.

Do you use your laptop on battery frequently, say more than once a month?

I think there something wrong with you laptop charging circuit. It's not detecting the battery state properly. Another possibility is that your mains adapter is not supplying correct voltage to the laptop, maybe it's lower than normal. If you can get hold of a voltmeter to check the voltage coming out of your AC adapter that will elimanate that possibility. Hope this helps...

Many thanks, will check when I get the chance, it's just that when I turn off, if I am already plugged in i have to unplug, then replug. Thats whats really confusing me!
