m9700 bios update

Ok, so I just did the update with the AW tech support guy. I almost had a small stroke in the process.

Here is some FYI incase this happens to any of you. I printed off the script from the AW site, burned the disc, called AW and we ran through the set up. Everything worked fine until the "American Megatrends/press F2" screen. After I pressed F2, I just got a flashing cursor, and nothing else. The tech guy was awesome he walked me through trying 60 different things and nothing was working. Finally I noted that my HDD light wasn't even coming on (I though I had fried the bios or something )

Long story short - if you have raid 0 or 1 - the new bios reverts the system back to Raid-disabled.

If you get the flashing cursor - Here's what you can do (with the help of the AW guy):
1. Reboot
2. Press the "del" key to enter bios setup
3. Go to advanced
4. Go to Nvida raid controller
5. Change the setting to enabled
6. Change the Primary and secondary to enabled
7. Press F10 to save changes and exit
8. Everything should boot up fine after that.

Of course, I haven't played any Bf yet, which is why I downloaded the update. I will let y'all know if I notice any difference.

LOL, must have been a panic... I only have a single drive so that didn't happen to me.

The guy said that he had walked several people through the process already, but I was the first with the RAID he had done, that's why it took him a while to figure out what was going on...

It was a panic - I got that sick feeling in my stomach. Ya know like the "Christmas Story" when the kid got hit close to the eye with the bb and he heard the echoing of his mother's voice - "you'll shoot your eye out"

I could just hear the echoing sound of "you just turned you shiney m9700 into a brick...."

Oh well, it all worked out for the better. I haven't really noticed much of a difference though, but I haven't really played very much of anyting today...

How do i check which version of bios i have?and what is the new version available, and where do i get it?

The new bios is available from AW's driver download page. Just put in the info for the m9700, and it's listed in the final page. Note that if you flash the bios without AW's assistance, and you screw up, you'll void the warranty.

You likely have bios 3.15 on your system. You can check by downloading and running cpu-z. It's a hardware analyzer and it gives you lots of info on what's in your system. Under the mainboard tab in cpu-z, it will give the bios version. W830D315 is the older bios, W830D317 is the newer version.
